QuickBooks No Company File

Hello! I've been having trouble finding a solution to my problem for about a week now... I'm an intern at a small interior design company and I went to enter invoices into my QuickBooks 2020 Premier edition on my desktop and it opened to a window that said no company file open. Upon scouring my computer completely, no QuickBooks file exists... how can this happen? I've used QuickBooks on this same desktop many, many times before with no issues and suddenly the next day I open it the company file has dissappeared. PLEASE help me resolve this! Would re-downloading the application on my desktop resolve this? What else can I do?

Thanks!

QuickBooks No Company File

I'm here to help find your QuickBooks company file so you can enter invoices, jheath2020.

You don't need to re-download the application. This typically happens when the file was accidentally moved or renamed.

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) uses different types of files to store different types of data. When you create a company file, QuickBooks creates a file with a .qbw extension. This file holds your company file and account info.

To fix this, you can go to your computer server and search for the file. Be sure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension type to ensure the search works correctly.

Once you found it, take note of the location and proceed to open the .qbw:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Open a Company File, then click Next.
  3. Click the company file.
  4. Choose Open.

If you're accessing the file over the network, check out the Company file is missing or cannot be found page. It provides detailed steps so you can open the file.

Once you're able to open the file, don't forget to update QuickBooks to the latest release. Doing this will make sure you have a better experience and fixes issues.

Let me know how everything turns out by commenting below. I'll be around until you're able to open the company file.
