QuickBooks Online: I Merged 2 DIFFERENT TYPE Accounts and QuickBooks Allowed It...However...

April 15, 2020 I merged 2 different type accounts: A Loan Receivable OTHER ASSET account with a Contractor EXPENSE account. Both were merged into the Loan Receivable account and accepted by QuickBooks Online today.

When I go to the merged OTHER ASSET account Loan Receivable, the accounts from the left behind (EXPENSE) account are not showing. There are only 111 transactions showing, not the new merged transactions, and the balance showing is incorrect.

HOWEVER, when I go to the Balance Sheet report OR if I RUN A REPORT for the Loan Receivable account itself, ALL 252 transactions correctly appear on the detail pages and they show the coorect balance!

Question: Does it take the QuickBooks Online CLOUD time overnight to effect showing all of the merged transactions in the Loan Receivable account? Or have I lost those transactions in the register account?

I now have saved the record of all 252 transactions but would like them to show up in the chart of accounts register for Loan Receivable.

I didn't realize that two different type accounts (Other Asset and Expense) shouldn't normally be merged. BUT, why did QuickBooks allow me do so? I have done it in the past successfully.

Your help is appreciated! Or if you can refer me to someone who has a remedy, thank you!

Hello, @GaryAlan.

Sometimes It’ll takes overnight to accomplish this process, it depends on the on the company data saved in the cloud.

QuickBooks will let you merge those accounts as long as they’re not the default accounts. You can check those accounts by going to this article: How to merge accounts, customers, and vendors

Also, here’s more information on how to manage default or special accounts in QBO: Manage default and special accounts in your chart of accounts

So far, it is "overnight" and the QuickBooks Online Cloud has still NOT populated the merged "OTHER ASSET" account, "Loan Receivable," with the transactions that have been merged from the prior (EXPENSE) account. However, as I wrote previously, ALL of the transactions still correctly show up when I look at a Balance Sheet report or when I "run a report" for the specific Loan Receivable account. (That seems to imply that all of the transactions HAVE been merged, but for some reason or delay they have not shown up in the actual account register in the Chart of Accounts.)

How long can it take for the the Cloud to update my account? Are you 100% sure, from your knowledge and experience, that my Loan Receivable merged account register WILL be updated soon? My client needs to work with that account as she has fiscal year end tax returns to file.

As I mentioned in my first comment/post, if there is someone at QuickBooks Help/Support who has more information about my situation and question, I would appreciate you letting me know who to contact.

Thank you for your assistance!
