Hi there, satC

I have some solutions for you to fix the QuickBooks program-related issues.

You'll want to repair QuickBooks Desktop. A damaged component can be a culprit for the error message.

Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Create a back up your company file beforehand to avoid any accidental data loss.
  2. Restart your computer to ensure there are no programs that may affect the repair.
  3. Open your Windows' Control Panel and select Programs and Features. If you don't see the option, hit on Programs, and then Program Features.
  4. Press on QuickBooks and click Uninstall/Change.
  5. Hit on Continue, then tap on Next.
  6. Tap Repair and click Next.
  7. Click on Finish when the repair is complete.
  8. Update your QuickBooks to the latest release.

Once done, restart your computer and open the sample file again. Check to see if it works.

However, if the issue persists, I recommend visiting this great resource for more troubleshooting steps: Fix QuickBooks Desktop install errors.

Get back to me if you have other questions, I'd be happy to help. Have a nice day.

I'm here to help you resolve the error you're having so you can open the sample company file, @satC.

Can you tell us more about the error code you've received when trying to opening the sample company file? That'll surely help us in resolving the error you're having.

You can run the File Doctor from the QuickBooks Tools Hub. But first, close your QuickBooks. Then, proceed to the steps that'll be mentioned below:

  1. Download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Once done, save the file and open the file you've downloaded.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. After installing the file, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

You can now run the Quick Fix my File:

  1. Click the Company File Issues tab from the tool hub.
  2. Select Quick Fix my File.
  3. Choose OK after launching your QuickBooks.

If you still get an error after trying those steps, then I suggest checking steps 3 to 5 from this article: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

In case you're encountering a -6000, XXXX error. This error is usually followed by 3 or 4 more digits and a message indicating that you are unable to open the company file, then check these articles for detailed steps on how to resolve it:

I'm always here if you need more help in resolving the error when trying to opening a company file. Take care and have a wonderful day!
