Adding Products and Services, Customers, and Vendors to Lists

Is there a way to list product/service by category and not alphabetically? We have two categories of sales and multiple items in each category. Too many to remember the names of them all. It would be really helpful if all the items in the Design category would appear first, then all the items in the Installation category. After that would be any miscellaneous items that we don't use very often, like NSF fees. At least we'd start in the right area to find items rather than have to scroll through every item alphabetically.

Thanks for getting in touch with us today. I can share some insights about the Product/Services list.

At the moment, the default view for lists in QuickBooks Online is set alphabetically. If you'd like to view products by group, the best thing to do is to set up a unique category to sort your list (Example: Category A: Design, Category B: Installation) then add it to your product/service item.

This is, however, a great idea we can add in QuickBooks Online so I'd recommend sending your product preference to our developers. Your suggestion helps them understand where we can improve and what features should be added so we can better serve you.

You can follow the steps below for them to account your request:

Go to the Gear icon.
Choose Feedback from the drop-down.
Enter your Comments, Suggestions or Feedbacks.
Choose Next.
Select a category.
Click Send message.

From the tech support answer am I to understand that you have categories for products but we are unable to view them when creating invoicing. This is totally worthless.

Thanks for joining this conversation. I'm here to share some clarification about the categories for products and services in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, you're right! You can categorize your products and services in QBO. However, you have to do it when setting them up or edit or add a specific category to already entered products.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Gear icon at the top, then pick Product and Services under Lists column.
2. Select Edit on the Product or Service that you've created,
3. In the Category panel, enter the Name of the new category, then Save and close.
