Assign unique journal entry number when copying a journal entry

Every day we create a journal entry in our QB to record previous days sales numbers, each journal entry has close to 54 lines, different classes, etc., so it is much easier to copy and then change numbers in the entry. We have done the setup in Preferences so that QB assigns a unique journal entry number each time a new journal entry is created, however, when you copy a journal entry, the new journal entry that gets created, gets the same journal entry number. Is there a way for QB to assign a new sequential number to the new journal entry that was created? Currently, my team is having to open journal entry, note down the next number, open previous day's entry, duplicate and then change the JE number. Seems like too many steps to me so wanted to see if we can simplify it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Assign unique journal entry number when copying a journal entry

Hi there, SERJGroup.

The Make a copy function will literally copy all information including the JE number. We're unable to change that.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if this is the report your team pulls up each day, but this is the easiest way to check the last JE number. On the Make General Journal Entries window, you can click the Reports tab and choose a range in the Entries entered drop list.

After knowing the last number, the you can click the Main tab and enter the next JE number.

Feel free to add a comment below if you have more questions.

Instead of copying the JE, memorize the transaction.   Then you can access it (go to lists, then memorized transaction list)  on a daily basis and it will assign it the next number.
