Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Ever since we had our last Windows update, our checking account balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero.  Does anyone have this problem?  I keep rebuilding the date, but the next day it will revert to zero.

Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Hi there, @kparra

Thanks for visiting the Community today. I'm here to help you get past this issue.

Let's first verify if our Windows update is compatible with the QuickBooks Desktop version. You can check out this article for more details: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and Enterprise Solutions 18.0.

To make sure you have an up-to-date fix within QuickBooks, you can download it to the latest release. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select the Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Update Now tab.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.

Once done, restart QuickBooks for the update to take effect. Then, accept the option to install when you're prompted with a new release.

Check out your bank balance and check numbers again. You can also run the Verify Rebuild tool to troubleshoot unusual behavior or any potential data issues.

For future reference, read through this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop. it helps you learn about matching your actual bank statements with your QuickBooks transactions to ensure your accounts are balanced and accurate.

Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Thanks, Katherine!  I've done everything you mentioned more than once, and it still does it.  The balance will be ok until the next day, but the check number never updates, so I have to manually enter it.  Any ideas why it's still doing it?

Good work for doing the steps my colleague provided, Kparra.

We'll have to further check why it's happening. I'd suggest reaching out to our customer care support. An agent has more tools to investigate this unexpected behavior. Here's how:

  1. Click Help in QuickBooks.
  2. Go to QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter "bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update" in the description field, then click Continue.
  5. Select either Message an Agent or Talk to a Specialist.

The Community is open 24/7. Feel free to post if you have other concerns.

Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Hello @kparra

What was your solution to this?  I am currently experiencing the same problem.  I'm running file rebuilds daily which corrects the data but does not seem to prevent the problem from occurring again the very next time we write another check.

Thanks.

Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Hello,

I actually did not do anything, and somehow after a few months of constantly doing the rebuild, I stopped encountering that problem.  I believe that Windows did an update that corrected the problem, so it's more than likely a bug on their end.  Make sure you allows the windows update if you haven't already done so.

Best of Luck!

Bank balance and check numbers keep reverting to zero after Windows update

Hello,

I actually didn't do anything, and it resolved itself after a few months of constantly having to do the rebuild.  I believe it was a Windows update that initially caused the problem, and in the latest update about a month ago, it seems to have resolved the problem.  So maybe check to ensure that your windows has updated if you haven't already done so.

Best of luck!  I know how frustrating it is!
