Join nowI am having a strange issue with Quickbooks desktop Mac 2020. I cannot open the company file from my computer. Here are the details.
1 computer runs the server and is set to never sleep. The internet connection for this computer is just fine and the server is running and healthy. Latest version of Quickbooks 2020 server.
2 computers on the same network have access to the server. The other person in the office is having no issue connecting to/opening the company file. My computer is.
All macbooks are running latest OS (Catalina).
All macbooks (including the server) have latest version of Quickbooks.
No internet/network issues detected when any of the issues are happening.
When I try to open the company file, the computer loads for about 20 seconds trying to open, then tells me unable to open the company file. This was happening for most of the day today. Then, unexplainably, it lets me open the company file. I get work done for about an hour, then when trying to save an invoice I created, it does the 20 second load and again tells me unable to connect.
I find the amount of information available for QB desktop mac 2020 users is very minimal, so my goal is not only to get my problem solved but hopefully help others. Thanks for any help in advance.
Thanks for the detailed information, Licht Homes. This helps me better understand your concern.
I really admire your goal to help others. Rest assured, I'm here to assist you in any way I can.
Let's go ahead and fix your company file so you can go back with running your business.
We'll remove the preferences file. This can fix data issues. Here's how:
I'll also add this article on how to fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file for future reference.
Feel free to get back to this thread if you need more help. We're right here for you.
I followed the steps and removed the preferences file. It did not immediately make a difference. Later in the day, it let me log back in and this morning when I booted it up it let me log in.
I did not do the data repair step yet. Going to see if the problem happens again and get more information if it does. It seems highly unusual for the problem to be sporadic.
