Cant open files

Hello,

I have an issue that Quickbooks support hasnt provided much help on so i figured I would ask the community.

I have 2 users, UserA and UserB.

I have 1 terminal server that host the QuickBooks Applications, Server-1.

I have 1 server that host the QuickBooks files, Server-2.

Both users and servers are in the same location on the same domain in office.

UserA remotes into Server-1 and can access CompanyFile-1 with no issues.

UserB remotes into Server-1 and cannot access CompanyFile-1, gets Error code 6176.

Resolutions and Troubleshooting steps attempted:

-Worked with QuickBooks - no help besides suggesting a connection issue which makes no sense.

-Turn off Windows Firewall (it was never on but QuickBooks support insisted they check over and over and over)

-Ran the file doctor repair on ComapnyFile-1. Did not help. Same error.

-Made sure other users were closing out of CompanyFile-1 properly.

-Rebuilt UserB profile on Server-1.

I can provide any additional info but I would greatly appreciate some help on this.

Thank you!

Cant open files

Hey there, VC3Admin.

Thanks for providing me such detailed information especially on the troubleshooting steps you’ve performed with our Technical Support Team. I want to ensure you can open your company file seamlessly.

Now, let’s try some new steps to check if the problem possibly lies on the file or QuickBooks. To begin, open a sample file.

Here’s how:

  1. In the No Company Open window, click on the drop-down for Open a Sample File.
  2. Then choose any from the list of sample company files.
  3. If you’re able to open it without any errors, then repair your QuickBooks.

Before repairing the software, create a backup copy of the company file so you'll have a record of your previous transactions.

To repair:

  1. Click on Start and select Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features. If necessary, select Uninstall a program.
  3. Choose QuickBooks in the list of programs and click on Uninstall/Change.
  4. If prompted, click on Continue and Next.
  5. Click on Finish and restart your computer if prompted.

Once done, let’s reopen your QuickBooks and make sure multi-user is set up correctly. For the detailed instructions, check out this article: Set up multi-user.

If you still get the same result, I recommend you give our support team another call. Just make sure to have your case number handy, so the agent can review the notes from your previous call and perform the troubleshooting steps from there.

To contact support:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contactus.
  2. On the Contact Us page, select your QuickBooks version.
  3. Choose the issue/topic.
  4. Click on the Get Phone Number button.

Upon giving them a call, you can open QuickBooks in a multi-user mode.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, feel free to post a comment below. I'll be glad to lend a helping hand. Wishing you the best.
