Chart of Accounts

After a recent background update the name at the top of my chart of accounts has disappeared. I often glance at the top of the CoA to verify which company I'm working with at the time and it's an interruption to my workflow to stop and look a the company info to verify. How do I get the company name back at the top of the CoA?

Hey there, JasonS.

I'd be glad to help you show the company name at the top of the chart of accounts in QuickBooks for Mac 2019.

It's important to make sure QuickBooks is up to date on the latest release to take advantage of updates and bug fixes. You may want to run the updates again.

Here's how:

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks for Mac.
    1. Close QuickBooks.
    2. From the Finder menu (search bar) on the upper right corner of your screen, choose Go Applications.
    3. Click the QuickBooks icon and drag/move it to the Trash.
  2. Reinstall the latest version.
    1. Go to QuickBooks Product Updates.
    2. Click [Change] to select your QuickBooks Desktop version.
    3. Click the Download button to download the installer file to your computer.
    4. Double-click the downloaded .dmg file.
    5. Drag the QuickBooks Desktop icon to the Applications folder to install.

When we added tabbing support for windows the name of the chart of accounts switched from the title bar of the window to the tab area just below it.  So either look at the tab area, or you can try turning tabbing off via QuickBooks->Preferences and clicking on Tabs, or alternatively if you have the toolbar set to horizontal the company name appears in the title bar of the toolbar.

You can set the toolbar to horizontal in QuickBooks->Preferences under the toolbar section.

Thanks for joining the Community, BarbHamm.

To identify which accounts you'll need to set up in your chart of accounts, I'd recommend working with an accounting professional. If you're in need of one, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find an Accountant. All ProAdvisors listed there are QuickBooks-certified and able to provide helpful insights for driving your business's success.

Here's how it works:

  1. Go to our Find an Accountant page.
  2. In the Find an expert in section, choose what you're looking for, then use your search field to enter a City or ZIP code.
  3. Select Search.
  4. Browse through the results and find one that works best for your business. You can click on each ProAdvisor's profile to learn more information about them.

Once you've found an accountant, they can be contacted through their Send a message form:

  1. Use the available text box to introduce yourself. Be sure to include details about which services you're looking for.
  2. Enter your appropriate info in the Your nameYour email, and Your phone number (optional) fields.
  3. Hit Send message.

I've additionally included a detailed resource about working with the chart of accounts which may come in handy moving forward: Learn about the chart of accounts

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely day!
