Converting 2010 Premiere accounting to 2016 Desktop Pro file

I currently have all my files on 2010 Premiere Accounting edition.  I cannot seem to load this on my new desktop with Windows 10 pro. Will this work with 10 Pro?  (If so, then no concern except how).  If not, I am looking to upgrade Quickbooks to 2016 Desktop pro. Will the files convert ok?

You may open the same QBW files on Pro, Premier or Premier Accountant with the same year version and don't need to convert it. When you are opening your data file of 2010 on QB 2016, QB will try converting it.

You may try install QB 2010 on Win 10 with the compatibility mode Win 7.

Thanks very much for your answer.

1. So no issues taking a 2010 file to any newer version

2. But you said I can upload my 2010 to Windows 10 using the compatibility mode win 7?  How does one do this?
Thanks

Thanks for coming back, richmandr.

You'll want to check the version of your Windows 10 by following the steps below:

  1. Go to the Start menu.
  2. Type About your PC.
  3. Select About your PC, then scroll down to find your version number.

To find out which Windows 10 version works best for QuickBooks Desktop, here's an article made handy for you.

@richmandr

Navigate your mouse on the installer file, click the right button and choose Properties. You may find Compatibility tab and try running your installer file on Compatibility Mode Win 7. If it is failed, you should consider using Pro 2020 on your Win 10. I don't recommend running unsupporting QB version (i.e 2016 or older) on supporting Windows OS (i.e 8.1 or 10). You may purchase QB 2020 Pro 1 user for $300 directly or $200 thru a partner.

@richmandr Being that 2010 is 10 years old your purchase might not even be available for download onto your new computer from your intuit account. It may be listed but no download link since it has been unsupported for the past 7 years.

And if you could download you probably would need support help to activate.

If you could get it converted to 2016, which might take 2 steps, QB2020 should be able to open and convert with no issues.

Do you have a CPA for taxes? Most COA forms will have in house older versions of quickbooks and they, or a QB Pro Advisor, could convert your database in the proper increments.

I bet if you buy QB2020 directly from Intuit they would even upgrade your company file for free or minimal charge

THanks for all your replies.  The 2010 quickbooks would not go on windows 10 pro so have to upgrade.  Have not yet tried to upgrade my 2010 file with the upgrade which I did to quickbooks 2018 desktop. You said this may have to be done in increments.  SO I guess the program cannot go from 2010 to 2018 seamlessly?  I do have an accountant to stepwise increase but I am surprised a program will not update from prior versions. Again thanks for your  help

THanks very much for your reply

1. I found out Quickbooks 10 could not load onto Windows 10 pro so I upgraded to quickbooks 2018 Desktop.

2.  I guess you said it may be challenging to load a 2010 file to 2018?  Will try I guess or if needed, can stepwise it up with my accountant, but I am surprised a program will not upgrade its own program from earlier versions.
