Find Feature

We have had to add a column for Batch number on our invoices.

I would like to use the Find Feature to search for the batch number.

Is it possible to add this to either the simple find, or the Advanced find?

If it is possible, how do I do it?

Find Feature

It's nice to see you here today, @chalmet59,

I can add some information about searching transactions using the Find feature in QuickBooks Desktop.

You're able to find invoice numbers using the Find option. However, if you're using a custom field for the batch number, we're unable to filter them. You can only search the default fields on your transactions. Let me guide you through the process:

The Simple Find allows you to do a quick search using the most common transaction types like Invoice, Sales Receipt, Credit Memo, and Check. Follow these steps to use this feature:

  1. Click the Edit menu then choose Find.
  2. Go to the Simple tab.
  3. Click the Transaction Type drop-down.
  4. Choose the transaction type you want to search.
  5. Fill in the fields that appear.
  6. Click Find.

To open a transaction, select the transaction you want to see and click the Go To button.

If you want to search for different transactions, click Reset.

The Advanced Find lets you do a more detailed transaction search. It allows you to apply filters to your search criteria and restricts the content of the search. To use this option, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Edit menu.
  2. Choose Find.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Use the filters from the list to refine your search. You can use multiple filters for your search.
  5. Click Find.
  6. If the search results are too long, you can narrow your search results.

I can see how helpful this preference can be very helpful for you, so I'll be sending this request to our engineers. They are the ones who consider feedback for future QuickBooks enhancements.

Please let me know if there's anything I can help, and I’d be happy to work with you again. Have a good day!

Find Feature

Is there a way in that basic find to have it default upon opening to  be sorted by one of the columns?  When I open mine (mac) it does not seem to have any rhyme or reason the way they display in the list.

Find Feature

Hey there, @corycorycory,

Thanks for posting your question in the Community. I can lend a hand with the Find feature in QuickBooks for Mac.

At the moment, there isn't a way to customize the sorting of the Basic Filter list. The columns you see on the Find option are the default Filters in QB Mac.

If you'd like to filter your transactions, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Edit menu at the top.
  2. Click Find to open the Search window. You can also use the Command key + F.
  3. Navigate the category you want to find from the results section.
  4. You can also use the Search field at the top.
  5. To get a more defined search, tap the Go to Find button.
