Hi there, oheinze.

It's possible that the sub-account might be inactive. This can be the reason why you can't see it and move the account due to the error. Follow these steps on how to check if the account was made inactive:

  1. Click the small Gear icon in the right-hand corner of your Chart of Accounts.
  2. Check the box for Include Inactive.
  3. Once done your list if there's a sub-account.

I would also recommend following these steps in case the error is caused by a browser issue:

  1. .Switch to an incognito/private browsing session. (Ctrl Shift N  for Google Chrome, Ctrl Shift P  for Firefox, Control Option +if you're using Safari).
  2. Log back in and move the expense account to COGS once again. Just click the drop-down list for View register and select Edit. Then, check the Is sub-account box and look for COGS.
  3. One you're able to move the account, go back to the regular browsing session and clear your cache and other temporary internet files. Use this article as a guide: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.
