I get this error message when I try to email an invoice%3A Incorrect credentials or Gmail settings

I keep getting this error message when trying to email an invoice and receipt. It says: Incorrect credentials or Gmail settings. I have gone into preferences in Quickbooks and my email is correct. I use gmail through google. My PC uses Windows 8. This was not an issue last week. What has happened and how can I fix it?

Let's get to the bottom of this email concern so you can email an invoice and receipt successfully. 


To get this sorted out, we can start with updating your QuickBooks to the latest release. An outdated QuickBooks can sometimes cause odd issues.


To run an update:

  1. From the QuickBooks Help menu, select Update QuickBooks.
  2. On the Update QuickBooks window, go to the Update Now tab. You can ignore the table because you don't need to change anything.
  3. Put a checkmark in the Reset Update box to erase all previous update downloads.
  4. Select Get Updates.
  5. Restart QuickBooks. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

You may also read through the link attached to lean more about the benefits of updating QuickBooks. Once done, you can toggle your email that was set up under your QuickBooks preference. 


To do that:

  1. From the QuickBooks Edit menu, select Preferences and click Send Forms.
  2. Select WebMail and click Add.
  3. Select your provider from the drop-down and enter your email address.
  4. Ensure that the Use Enhanced Security checkbox is checked.
  5. Click OK.
  6. When prompted, sign in to your Intuit account. The username or email address you use here may not necessarily be the same as the one you are connecting to QuickBooks.
  7. Your webmail provider's login page will display. Sign in and choose to grant Intuit access.
