Importing a chart of accounts with initial zeros

We are new to QB. We've exported our chart of accounts out of Sage and now we are trying to import them into QB. Sage does not seem to have any like Type Description, but that's not the main issue. We have account numbers that start with 0, such as 0100. I assume that was done to have four digit account numbers. When I go to import, those account numbers don't show up. Do I need to manually enter the numbers or strip out the initial zero?

Thank you!

Importing a chart of accounts with initial zeros

Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Online, tterrill11375.

I'm here to share additional information about the importing process.

You don't have to manually enter them. QuickBooks fully supports the account numbers from Sage. You'll want to make sure that the Enable account numbers option is turned so you'll be able to see the numbers. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and settings.
  3. Head to the Advanced tab, then click the Edit icon in the Chart of accounts section.
  4. Turn on the Enable account numbers option.
  5. Tick the Show account numbers checkbox if you want to show the account numbers on reports and transactions.
  6. Hit Save and then Done.

Once done, try importing the file again and then check if the account numbers are now showing.

Additionally, if your raw file doesn't support the Detail Type column, you can just leave these fields blank and add the information later. To learn more about this topic, you can visit this article: Import your chart of accounts.

I'm also adding these resources to help manage your new chart of accounts in QuickBooks:
