My password stopped working

I got a new computer and had to download Quickbooks Desktop for Mac 2016. My current Quickbooks file is for the same product. The vision from my old computer was V17.0.4.R5 and the new is V17.2.32.R33. When I load it onto the new computer, it needs to update the file to a new version, which I do. Then when I try to open the updated version of the file, my password no longer works. I don't understand what's happening.

Re: My password stopped working

A warm welcome to you here in the Community, @Mol159

Let's reset the password for your QuickBooks Desktop Mac so you can get back to business.

First off, ensure you have all the following information below ready to reset your password for admin :

  • You need your QuickBooks license number password.
  • You also need the email address, phone number, ZIP code, and name you use when you purchased and registered the product.

You can get all those information on the CAMPS website. Once ready, follow these steps below to reset your password:

  1. Select Forgot Password on your QuickBooks login screen.
  2. Supply all the information on the form, then click OK.
  3. A code will be sent through email. Check your email and enter the code. Then, click OK.

Once done, follow the onscreen guide in creating a new admin password. Please note that only the company file admin can reset a password for non-admin users.

For more information, you can refer to this help article: Reset password for QuickBooks Mac Desktop. Follow the steps under how to reset a non-admin password

Re: My password stopped working

Thank you for the advice.  I found my original version of Quickbooks 2016 and am able to open the file that way. I'll try this solution in the future. Is there a reason why the password would be invalidated, though? It doesn't make sense to me.

Re: My password stopped working

Thank you for getting back to us, @Mol159.

I’m glad that you’ve updated your current version.

When updating your company file, it asks you to enter your password to confirm the changes on your company file. It doesn’t invalidate your password.

But since it does, you’ll need to verify your company and re –update your version. You can follow the steps below to verify:

  1. Click on File from the menu bar.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.

You can refer to this article for more information: Update QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
