QB doesn't see I'm in the single-user mode.

I'm logged in as a single user. In process of updating inventory accounts (correcting COGS accounts), QB tells me that I need to switch to single user mode to save changes. I tried to use the Messenger option "to communicate with other users" and of course I get a message that I'm not in multi-user mode. So I get these two contradicting message and just stuck in this circle. I can't finish my corrections that must be done.

Hey there, @Sveta.

Once you're finished modifying your inventory accounts, you can switch your company file back to multi-user mode to enable the messaging feature. Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  2. Choose Host Multi-User Access. Then Yes to confirm.

That's it! For more information on features available in each mode, I recommend checking out: Features available and tasks you can perform in single or multi-user mode

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm here to get you back to business. Have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you Michael, but what you suggested doesn't solve my problem.

My post says: I'm logged in as a single user. In process of updating inventory accounts (correcting COGS accounts), QB tells me that I need to switch to single user mode to save changes. I tried to use the Messenger option "to communicate with other users" and of course I get a message that I'm not in multi-user mode. In other words - I need to finish my task that can be done only in single user. I am logged in as single user and QB tells me that I am not.  It tells me that I can communicate with other users. I wanted to see why it tells me that and tried to use the Messenger option. Then I get a message that I an not in multi-user mode, which I already know that I am not. The screenshot shows those two messages. My question is why it doesn't see me as a single user for my task but it does see as a single user for another. To finish my task i must be a single user.

Thanks for getting back to us, @Sveta.

To resolve data integrity issues within the company file, we'll need to run the Verify and Rebuild data in your QuickBooks Desktop. Make sure to close all existing windows.

To verify the data here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu at the very top.
  2. Select Utilities on the drop-down menu and select the Verify Data option

To rebuild the data:

  1.  Go to the File menu at the very top.
  2.  Select Utilities on the drop-down menu and select the Rebuild Data option.
  3. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  4. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

You can click this article for detailed steps: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, then we can resort to the Item List it can repair damage by re-sorting which puts a list back to its default order. For more information, please click this article: Re-sort lists in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, you can browse our Help articles it provides tips on how to manage your account in QuickBooks.

Let me know if you need anything else, I'm here to answer them and help you out. Take good care.

Thank you Joesem! Seems like rebuilding a company file is the solution to the most of strange glitches in QB. It worked.
