Re: QB for Mac 2019

Welcome aboard to the QuickBooks Community, @Digital Accountant.

One way to update the company data to the latest version is by opening it on the newly installed QuickBooks for Mac 2019. Here’s how:

  1. Download and install QuickBooks Mac Desktop 2019.
  2. Go to the File menu and select Open Company.
  3. Locate the company file and click Open.
  4. Read the information on the upgrade dialog. Choose Upgrade to open it.
  5. Log in to the company file as the Admin user.
  6. Click OK on the dialog box stating the file has been upgraded.

Once done, you need to perform the following:

  • Store the backup in a safe location for future use.
  • If you copied the data file from a different computer to upgrade it, copy it back again.
  • If you can’t find its original data file in its original location, search the hard drive for *.qb* to find all QuickBooks company file.

Another option is to restore the 2001 backup copy to QB Mac 2019. Let me guide you through the steps:

  1. Locate the backup copy and double click the .dmg file.
  2. Drag the company file (with .qbXXXX extension) to the folder where you want to save the file.
  3. To the same folder, drag the Attached Documents Library folder (if applicable).
  4. Click the copy of the company file saved on the desired location or go to the File menu and select Open Company.

Check out these articles for more information:

Also, please read through the user’s manual for Mac 2019 to get started: QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019.

That should get you pointed in the right direction.

Keep me updated on how this goes. I’m always ready to help if you need anything else. Have a good one!

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi,

Is there a way I can install a QB 2019 for Mac to try myself to restore the 2001 QBB backup and see on how initially it goes using my computer before I get back to my client?

Re: QB for Mac 2019

hi @ Digital Accountant ,

I am not sure you could upgrade directly from QuickBooks 2001 to QuickBooks 2019 (Windows/Mac). Please let us know if you found any trouble later.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi,

I went over some similar case and I haven't seen similar scenario. Maybe there's some sort of migration path from 2001 to 2019 with several stages in between (like 2001 to 2003 and so on til 2019 something like that?

Thanks,

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Thanks for keeping me updated about this, @Digital Accountant.

I'd like to add some more details about upgrading and updating your QuickBooks to the latest version.

Before upgrading your QuickBooks to the latest version, you'll need to make sure that your Mac's operating system is compatible with QuickBooks for Mac 2019.

You may also try converting your file using our QuickBooks Desktop for Mac trial version so you'll be able to check if your file will be converted successfully.

If you still encounter errors while on the process, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have the ability to conduct a screen-sharing session to help you with the conversion process.

I want to ensure that this gets taken care of for you, so please feel free to update me by posting a comment below. Cheering you to continued success in all of your endeavors.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi @BettyJaneB,

Is it possible to provide an old QB version to be able to migrate the QB 2001 backup since it cannot be directly upgraded from 2001 to 2019?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Hi Digital Accountant,

You can only download three years back of QuickBooks versions from our website and migrate from there. Thus, we're unable to provide older versions such as 2003 or 2004.

You'll want to contact our Technical Support so we can assist you further. You can also check other website that offers downloadable links of the older QuickBooks version.

Here's how you can reach us:

  1. Go to https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact#.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks version.
  3. Click Search for something else. Then, type your question in the Ask us anything field.
  4. Click Get Phone Number.

I've added this helpful article to help you run your business smoothly: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019?

If you have additional questions, feel free to post anytime.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

hi @Digital Accountant ,

You could try converting it to QuickBooks 2005 as first step. Due to Intuit Community's policy, please PM me to get the free download link at other site.

Another option, we could refer you to purchase 3rd party solution to convert it directly to QB 2019 for Mac.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

I don't think the Mac version was produced in 2001.  Its likely that you have a QuickBooks Windows version of the file.  You'll need to upgrade it in QuickBooks Windows to at least 2006 version. Then you could export from there to QuickBooks Mac.

I'm not sure which versions of QuickBooks Windows can read a 2001 version unfortunately - might want to ask in the Windows forum here.

Re: QB for Mac 2019

Oh, you can download a trial version of QuickBook Mac 2019 from qblittlesquare.com for free.  But it won't help until you get it updated and turned into a Mac version of the file.
