QB freezing when editing a transaction that is also being reconciled by another user

I was editing a line of journal entry that included a different line that my book keeper had checked in the process of completing a bank reconciliation, and then both of our QB froze. Mine is totally unresponsive, and her reconciliation screen froze with the error, "unable to reconcile this account because one or more of the transactions in this account are being edited by admin..."  I am the admin.

unsure if I should try and let this resolve on its own, or I need to force quit it, or if force quitting will make it worse.  We're both using QB desktop (windows) with our company file hosted on our internal server.

QB freezing when editing a transaction that is also being reconciled by another user

Hello there, @Ari Hausman.

Here are some of the possible reasons yours and your bookkeeper's QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) froze:

  • Your company name is too long.
  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • Corruption on your hard drive
  • Damaged program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation.
  • Damaged Windows operating system

When users are managing or editing a transaction at the same time in QBDT, there's a possibility that the program will freeze. However, there isn't a need to worry because you can close the program so we can proceed in performing the suggested resolution. This is to prevent any further data damage.

You can start by running the Quick Fix my Program feature from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This will help fix common program errors in QBDT. In case you haven't already downloaded and installed the tool on your computer, here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  4. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  6. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, run the Quick Fix my Program feature from the Tool Hub. This will shut down any open background processes the QuickBooks uses and run a quick repair on your program. Here's how:

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

In case the issue continues, I'd recommend performing Solutions 2 and 3 in this article: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working. It provides a step-by-step guide on how to perform each resolution.

Please let me know how it goes by dropping a comment below. For other concerns or follow-up inquiries about reconciliations, managing transactions, and monitoring the growth of your business using QBDT, I'm just around to help. Take care always.
