QB2012 Desktop Mac does not update a file that was opened from a mounted partition.

When company file is on a mounted partition, the file opens, updates are in memory  but updates are not committed to disc and on close the backup file is written as configured to a non mounted partition (desktop), but the contents of the backup are equal to the file when initially opened.  (Mac OS is Mojave 10.14.2)  I've just switched from QB2009 to QB2012; I did not have this issue with QB2009.  Is   this unique to QB2012 Mac desktop?

Greetings, @MikeKe,

Thanks for getting this to our attention and for letting us lend you a helping hand. Allow me to share some insights about upgrading your QuickBooks version.

All QuickBooks editions follow a standard system requirement to ensure it works as designed. Please be reminded that we cannot guarantee that you'll have a trouble-free experience since you're using a non-supported version which isn't compatible with Mojave 10.14.2.

At the moment, you can try saving the file to your Documents or other location and see if it updates there. If the problem persists on the new drive, I'd recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Mac Care Support.

There they can share additional workarounds to help you get back on track. Here's how you can contact them:

  1. Go to this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
  2. Choose QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Click the Search for something else button.
  4. In the Tell us more about your question: box, type QuickBooks 2012.
  5. Scroll down and click the Get Phone Number button.

That should do it, @MikeKe. Please let me know how this goes. I want to ensure you're taken care of.

So you don't waste time looking into this:  QB2012 Desktop Mac DOES update a file that was opened from a mounted partition.  I am embarrassed to say, as I was playing with the files and getting ready to put QB2019 in place for prod, I cleaned out the partition and didn't have problems when I opened the file from the partition.   I was certain I had checked this, but could  not reproduce the issue.  I even tried upgrading the QB2009 file from desktop and putting it into the partition and upgrading the QB2009 file from the partition and leaving it in the partition. Both worked ok.  So, I have to believe it was my problem that the partition did not have enough space.

Yes, copying the file to a hard drive location modifying it and copying it back works.

Thank you.

You can’t open the application “Setup_QuickBooksPro2019.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on macOS.
