Quickbooks for Mac

We need to run El Capitan on our Mac because we're using an older version of a favorite program, so I can't upgrade.  I need to find an older version of QB for Mac to be compatible.  I might be able to upgrade to High Sierra, and the Intuit rep I spoke to yesterday said that QB for Mac 2016 would be compatible with that.  Since Intuit doesn't sell older versions, she suggested I check resellers like Sam's Club and Costco for the 2016 version, but I've had no success finding it.  Another post in the Community said that resellers are not allowed to sell the older versions.  Is this true?  Any ideas on where to track down an older version?

Quickbooks for Mac

Good day, mersidoe. I can help share some information regarding tracking down an older version of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

QuickBooks for Mac 2016 is a discontinued and no longer supported version of QuickBooks. You may be able to download the program, however, registering it online is currently unavailable.

I'd suggest getting in touch with our Support Team to help you install and activate the program using a validation code.

Intuit discontinues live support and access to add-on business services of older desktop versions of QuickBooks to focus on supporting more current versions.

In case you want to upgrade your desktop version, you can take a look at this article for detailed steps and instructions: Upgrade your company files after you switch to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop. On the same link, you'll find steps on how to update your company file as well as its release version.

Additionally, you can visit this write-up: What's new in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. This will provide you new features and how you can use them to benefit your business.

I'm only a comment away if you have any other QuickBooks for Mac concerns or anything about older versions. I'll be here to answer them for you and provide additional assistance. Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for your quick response, but I don't think you read my question correctly.  I need to use an older version of QB because the operating system for my Mac will not work with your current versions.  I can't upgrade my computer because I need to use El Capitan for another software program required to run my business.

It seems to me that if the download is available, Intuit could make registration available as well.  Not everybody is able to use the most current versions.  I don't need the support.  As a Quickbooks user since 2006, we're pretty well versed in the program, and know how to search any issues should they arise.  After all these years of loyalty to Intuit, it seems they should be more willing to work with a long time customer.

Ok, end of rant.

If you want to keep using El Capitan, I don't recommend to purchase any outdated QBD Mac version. Consider purchasing the license of Parallels and Windows 8.1/10. Then you may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Pro 1 user worth $399 or Premier 1 user worth $499. Another option, purchase a QBD Windows license and deploy a private cloud to access it on browser from your Mac.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that is what we're migrating away from. Many years ago, we had tried to use Quickbooks for Mac, and we found it was sorely lacking for what we needed, especially because it had a third party payroll program.  (This was many years ago!)  We have been running Parallels/QBW ever since, and I just thought it would be simpler to switch back to the Mac version, because I had assumed that Intuit had improved it, and we don't need the payroll feature any longer.

I would say QBD Mac is similar to QBD Pro. Should you need more features, consider using QBD Premier and deploy a private cloud at your premise. Your Mac users will access the QuickBooks file on browser with an internet connection. You may keep using El Capitan for the time being.
