Quickbooks on Safari Ipad opens the camera, not the camera roll or files

I've run into an issue when I try to attach receipts on Safari on my Ipad Pro running Ipad OS 13. Instead of giving me an option to attach a photo from the camera roll or attach a file from the files app, it immediately opens the camera to take a photo. I don't want to do this.

I've tested file attachments with gmail and safai and I have no problem attaching all sorts of files, so I know it's a problem with the Self Employed website on the Ipad version of Safari.

I just want away to attach screenshots to my transactions from the ipad.

I know you can probably do this on the Self Employed app, but the app runs in portrait mode only, which is not conducive to my workflow on the Ipad.

Welcome to the Community, @smokymountaincouple. QuickBooks uses a browser to speed up your loading process.

Your browser saves files to load websites faster. However, when it gets full of outdated files, that may cause small issues such as this.

To resolve this issue, let's first confirm this by logging in to your QBSE account using a private or incognito window on your iPad.

Here's how:

  1. Open Safari on your iPad, then tap the Pages icon (consisting of two squares) to bring up the open tabs view.
  2. Tap "Private". Notice how the interface turns a dark gray.
  3. Tap the "+" icon to open a private tab.
  4. Log in to your QBSE account.
  5. Follow the steps to manually attach receipts on a web browser.

If that fixes the problem, go back to the main browser to clear its cache. Refer to this article for the step-by-step guide: Clear the history and cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists, I'd recommend using a different browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

For future reference, you can also check out this link to learn more about how to enter receipts on your QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app

Feel free to let me know if you have any other concerns. I'll always make sure to get back.

I’m having the same problem as this. I’ve tried using a private tab as suggested with no luck, I’ve also tried using the Firefox browser which does exactly the same thing and opens the camera.

A lot of professionals use iPads for because of their performance and mobility, I have the iPhone app but why should I use that when my work and admin is done on the iPad. Please fix the issue or develop an app for the iPad.

Quickbooks on Safari Ipad opens the camera, not the camera roll or files

Hello, @Lt94.

When accessing your QuickBooks Self-Employed account using the web browser in your iPad, the default option to add receipts is to browse from your camera roll or files. However, if you're using the QuickBooks Self-Employed app in your iPad, its set to automatically open your camera while attaching receipt. You can disable the app from automatically accessing the camera in your iPad. I can guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy.
  3. Select Camera
  4. Locate the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  5. Toggle off the to disable camera.

Thanks for your reply.

I use the quickbooks via safari and it only opens the camera roll and never offers the option to access anything else. I have to use it via a browser because I tried Quickbooks self employed app when I first joined however you do not offer an app optimised for the iPad, its just the iPhone app and definitely not supported on iPad as its fixed in portrait mode where most iPads used for work are used in landscape with a keyboard and doesn’t fit the screen, it’s displayed minimised, the same size as the mobile app. I did just download it again to double check you haven’t optimised it for iPad now however it is still the same.

I have tried forwarding receipts from a verified email however this is broken as well. Hopefully we can get an actual ipad app soon.

I have this same problem, I spoke to an Apple technical support member, this is a software developer issue.  I used a different website to test Apple’s theory and they were right….when you select browse in the other website that allows you to attach a document,  the user is given the option to get files from IPad, iCloud or OneDrive.  If I use the mobile app the “attached receipt works fine, but like another person commented the app is not configured for the iPad, so the screen is the size of a mobile device. Interesting the upload link below works fine to add a file, so it’s definitely QB Self-Employed website that has this issue while using an iPad. Please ask the software developer to fix this issue.

I am having the same problem. Just spoke with Jay through chat and he had me use Chrome, clear the cache, open a private tab, and nothing worked. then he had me do the same with Safari, and still the same. Clicking the link to upload a receipt just opens the camera. No other options on the camera screen either, like being able to open the gallery from there.

Using the app on ipad is silly. It’s small, the size of a small phone, and its in portrait mode, while iPad is landscape. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE so we can use the web version of Quickbooks Self Employed!
