QuickbooksAutoDataRecovery folder has stopped populating as of February 2020.

I use Quickbooks Enterprise 2020. From my understanding this folder should update its info after a user signs in. It is located in the same directory as my company file, but no new data ever gets written here. Any ideas as to what might be causing this issue?  My company file backup size is less than 1.5GB.

Make sure the Windows firewall isn’t blocking Intuit Data Protect, PSCPeter.

This is the possible cause why it's not populating backups automatically. Here's how:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and type Firewall in the search field.
  2. Select Allow an app through Windows Firewall, then Allow another app.
  3. Select Browse and go to Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  4. Select QBIDPservice.exe, then Open.
  5. Select Network types and select the Private checkbox. Select Add.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the files IBUenghost.exe and IntuitDataProtect.exe. If you get a message saying the files already exist, you’re all set.

Then, add Intuit Data Protect to your Trusted Sites:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and type Internet options in the search field.
  2. Select Security, then Trusted sites.
  3. Select Sites and add the following websites. You can copy and paste, or type them manually. Select Add for each site.
    • backup.com
    • *.intuit.net
    • *.intuit.com
    • *.intuitdataprotect.com
    • *.quickbooks.com
    • workplace.intuit.com
    • emerald.backup.com (a new trusted site that updates your Intuit Data Protect certificates)
  4. Make sure the Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  5. Select Close, then OK.
  6. Make sure you can open the Intuit Data Protect certificate site. You need to be able to open this to avoid errors with your backups.
  7. Try to back up with Intuit Data Protect.

Let me know how it goes, I'd be glad to help you more.

QuickbooksAutoDataRecovery folder has stopped populating as of February 2020.

Hello Mary!

I went through the steps of your solution.  However, we do not use Intuit Data Protect.  We have a service that backs up all our servers nightly.   In the past I have been able to save company files using the ADR and TLg files that are created in the QuickbooksAutoDataRecovery folder.  For the QB company file on one of your servers it writes these files every hour.  But, for this specific file and QB company file it seems to have stopped writing new ones since February.  I did complete the process you described.  Does allowing those sites and adding them to the firewall have anything to do with that folder?  Does Intuit Data Protect have any relation to the above mentioned folder?

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks for the quick reply, @PSCPeter.

Let me help you with the Quickbooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) folder will be updated again in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2020.

Yes for both questions regarding Intuit Data Protect. Intuit Data Services helps with data recovery, same with ADR.

To re-updates or recover data, please follow the steps below.

  1. Create a new folder on your Desktop named QBTest
  2. Open your company file's folder, then look for the .tlg file.
  3. Copy the .tlg file, and paste it to your QBTest you've created.
  4. Go back to your company file, then open the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery.
  5. Copy the .QBW.adr file and paste it into the QBTest folder.
  6. Right-click the  .QBW.adr, then rename it. Make sure to delete the .adr.

After that, let's access your QuickBooks, then open the QBTest folder to verify the data. Let me guide you how:

  1. Go to the File menu, then choose Utilities
  2. Select Verify Data to validate the data integrity of the recovered file.
  3. If everything is good, you can relocate the damaged company file to a different location. Then transfer the copy from QBTest to the original location.

Hello,

I have found that article before.  The problem is the QuickbooksAutoDataRecovery folder is empty, there are no ADR files to be found.  How will this help my QuickbooksAutoDataRecovery folder to start populating again?  Perhaps I am missing something.

Hello,

Quickbooks Call support is what got me here in the first place.  The call support deferred me to the developer forums, the dev forums deferred me here, and now you are shifting my attention full circle.  I guess I will give them a call again and see if another agent will prove more helpful than the first.

Hi @PSCPeter..  Did you ever get a resolution to this issue, where your ADR folder is empty or at least the files are way old?  I am having this issue with one of my companies as well.
