Join nowWith two companies in QB 2020 Pro are both effected when one switches to single user mode?
Solved! Go to Solution.
You will need QB Premier Accountant or Enterprise to open 2 company files at the same time on the same screen. If you only have QB Pro/Premier, you may put the license and data files on an authorized QB cloud hosting to open more than 1 company file at the same time on the same screen.
Welcome and thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @Comair.
The changes only affect the current file opened when switching to a single-user mode. If you wish to shift the other file to a single-user mode, close the latest one, then open the other.
To close it, click on the Close Company button from the File menu. To open the second account, select the company under the No Company Open window.
This article details the feature available and tasks you can perform in a single or multi-user mode, you can open it for your reference.

What if you have a user in two different companies at the same time?

I don't think this is true. When I need single user mode in one of my companies BOTH are affected and this is a big frustration.
Greetings, @Cynthia NTPHP.
It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I don't want you to be frustrated, so let's take a look at this single-user mode issue together.
Let's make sure of a particular check-box before digging deeper into this problem. When opening an existing company file, you have the option of putting a check in a box marked, "Open file in multi-user mode." This needs to be blank and not checked. Here's how to get there:
3. When the new window pops up, ensure that box is unchecked.
This should do the trick. In addition, here's a guide that can help you in the future: Features available and tasks you can perform in single or multi-user mode.
Let me know if this works. I want to make sure all of you concerns are taken care of. I'm only a reply away if you need me again. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Have a great day!
Hi! We actually always want to be in multi user with 3 active users. I am the only one that needs single user to upload files and do maintenance, but even if i am in a different company (where the other two are not) I cannot use single user. It's like the companies are tied even though separate. Thank you.
Thanks for adding clarifications to your concern, Cynthia NTPHP.
To be able to use the single user, make sure to update your QuickBooks to the latest release. This allows the system to have the most recent fixes and security updates.
Here's how to manually update your software:
