What is the QBO code for Transfers. Here is the one for check... <TRNTYPE>CHECK

Hi there, kcroy.

Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community. I'll route you to the right support person for help with the correct code for Transfers and how the file format works.

 When importing transactions using your bank's file format, QuickBooks Online would depend on the information shared by the financial institution. With this, you'll have to contact the bank. This is to make sure that you properly download entries to QuickBooks.

Then, you also have the option to consult an IT professional if you're importing files using IIF. They can help you further and present different codes for transactions or Transfers. To see the various information about importing files, you can click this article: IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers.

After that, there are formatting restrictions when importing bank transactions in your file, and can cause the system to say the format is incorrect. That being said, I suggest checking the file format if it's accepted by QuickBooks. Then, you can try to change/rename the file extension to lowercase as having done with other users to successfully importing transactions. Please make sure that your file doesn’t break the following formatting limitations:

  • Special characters are not allowed.
  • Zeros (0) are not allowed anywhere in the file.
  • Correct any transactions that display an amount in the Description column.
  • Remove the word amount if it appears in the name of the Credit or Debit column.
  • MAC  users must save the file as a Windows CSV file.
  • Correct and standardize the Date format to a single format (for example, dd/mm/yyyy).
  • Some banks provide the day of the week and include it in the Date column (for example, 20/11/2018 TUE in column A) which is not an acceptable format. To correct this, split the date and the day of the week into two separate columns.

For additional information, here’s an article that you can check on: How to import bank transactions using Excel CSV files.

You can also click this article to view steps on how you can manually record a transfer between two accounts in QuickBooks Online: Transfer funds between accounts.

Please check this article to see steps on how to fix different banking errors: What to do if you see a bank error or bank transactions won’t download

As always, you can reach back out if you have further questions about importing transactions in QuickBooks Online. I’d be happy to answer it for you.

Do you have the format for the required fields that go under that, or a sample transfer? I'm assuming it isn't the same as the CHECK type.

Hello there, @kcroy.

Thanks for getting back here. When importing your files to QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can either use the 3 or 4 column format. They are already arranged in order and QBO only requires these columns.

The 3 column format includes the Date, Description, and Amount column. import1.PNG

While the 4 column format has a Date, Description, Credit, and Debit column. import2.PNG

To learn more about importing data in QBO, please visit this page: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Also, to further assist you in importing your files in QBO, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Care team. They use specific tools to pull up your account in a secure place and further guide you in importing your transactions.

If there is anything else you need about importing transactions in QBO, please post a response below. I am always available to help in case you need it. Take care.

These examples don't include which account the transfer is going to or from. Am I missing something obvious?

To be clear, I am talking about a .QBO file.

So it should look something like this:

<STMTTRN>
<TRNTYPE>
<DTPOSTED>
<TRNAMT>
<FITID>
<NAME>
<MEMO>
</STMTTRN>

Did you edit your response? Originally you wrote that <TRNTYPE>TRANSFER was the solution, yes?

Thanks for coming back here, kcroy.

Based on the screenshot you've shared, it seems that you have the QuickBooks Desktop version. While we're unable to see the content of the .qbo file when it's being imported and what code to use, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can do a screen sharing session to check your setup and help you successfully import the transactions.

Here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks Desktop program, go to Help QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. In the Have a Question window, click the Contact Us link at the bottom.
  3. From the Contact Us page, select any topics.
  4. Under Here's how to connect with a QuickBooks expert section, click the Start a Message or Get Phone Number button.

If you have a subscription for QuickBooks Online and downloaded the CSV (Comma delimited) file type from your bank's website, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague DivinaMercy_N. Otherwise, contact our Customer Care Team for QBO by following these steps:

  1. Click the Help icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. In the Help window, click the Contact Us button located at the bottom.
  3. Enter your question and click Let's talk.
  4. Choose either Start a chat or Call us.

If you have the new QuickBooks Assistant help update, you can follow these steps:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, go to the Help > Assistant.
  2. Type Talk to a human and proceed with I still need a human.
  3. Click the Contact us link.
  4. Select either Messaging or Callback.

I'm also adding these article to learn more about Web Connect (.qbo) files:

Please let me know in the comments below if you require additional information or other concerns with your account. I'll be around to help you out again. Take care!
