When i attempt to print and estimate freeze occures? Quick book 2016 desk top pro

I'm glad you turned to the Community, Mimi23.

It's my goal to get this working for you. Freezing issues in QuickBooks Desktop can be fixed by downloading the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool is designed to automatically diagnose and fix common issues within the software.

Below are the instructions on how to do it:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  6. Once the  QuickBooks Tool Hub is open, select Program Problems.
  7. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  8. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

To ensure the components are properly updated, please restart the computer after running the tool.

You can refer to this article for a complete guide on the process of fixing freezing issues within the software : QuickBooks Desktop won't open, has stopped working, or not responding.

Once done, try printing your estimates again to see how it works.

Be sure to get back to me if you have follow-up questions. I'm always happy to help. Have a good day!

the print spool locks up and freezes the entire program. I have to go to task manager and end task. I have checked the printer settings and confirmed the right printer is chosen. I can print from all other screens; invoices, reports. Just not estimates

Having the exact same problem.  When we attempt to print an estimate or even "print to PDF", our Quickbooks locks up.  We then have to "End Task" of the print in "Task Manager" in order to unfreeze Quickbooks.  All other forms such as Invoices and Statements print fine.  The problem occurs with estimates.  Also, this problem is fairly recent in that we used to be able to print estimates a few months ago.  We are running Desktop Pro 2020.

Hey there, Tadwood. I did some research about this printing an estimate and freeze occurs. I have some information plus a troubleshooting process to share with you. This has been reported and the issue has been resolved.

Microsoft released a new update to resolve this. Please make sure you've downloaded the latest windows update and confirming in the Update History that shows as installed. If it doesn't prompt to reboot, please do so before sending emails or printing. We have also seen where only logos of PNG format will work. Please verify the only PNG is being used and not JPG or other formats.

We need to verify the following, Here's how to do it:

  • Windows build (Start > Run, type winver press enter) and screen shot of the Update History to confirm if the 2 updates mentioned above are installed
  • QuickBooks logs uploaded (Press F2, then F3, click Open File tab and then choose the Save Log Files on drive button. Zip file will be saved to desktop and please upload this to the case.)
  • Event Viewer logs uploaded (See steps below)
  1. Open "Event Viewer" by clicking the "Start" button
  2. Click "Control Panel" > "System and Security" > "Administrative Tools", and then double-click "Event Viewer"
  3. Click to expand "Windows Logs" in the left pane, and then select "Application".
  4. Click the "Action" menu and select "Save All Events As".
  5. Name the file "eventviewer.evtx" and click the "Save" button
  • Are there Logos on the customer's templates?
  • Print or Email (need exact steps to reproduce)
  • Email preference (Outlook or Webmail)
    • Office Version and build number
    • What webmail provider

You can refer to this article for more information about window freeze when printing: QuickBooks Desktop for Windows freezes when trying to email or print

However, if QuickBooks freezes when sending emails (outlook/webmail) or printing transactions. If this issue can be isolated to the file (meaning you can print/email in a test but not the live file) the templates could be damaged in several ways. We will need to remove the logos or default the templates to resolve this issue.

That's it. Please let me know how it goes, I want to ensure that you're able to print out the transaction. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Have a great day!
