Re: When paying sales tax from the vendor menu, QuickBooks stops working.

Hi there, @Tommy62.

I knew some solutions to help fix the issue you're having while paying your sales tax in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I'm here help share them with you.

This error may happen when:

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

To fix the error, you can use the QuickBooks Refresher Tool which performs mini repair on your QBDT.

  1. Close all QuickBooks Desktop versions.
  2. Download the QuickBooks Refresher Tool.
  3. Save the file on your desktop.
  4. Run the QBRefresher tool.
  5. Re-open QuickBooks Desktop.

If the error continues, you can use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool which automatically diagnoses and fixes issues with Microsoft components QuickBooks program uses.

  1. Download the QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool.
  2. When prompted, save the file to the local Desktop.
  3. Close any open programs and run the QBInstall Tool. The tool can take up to 20 minutes to run completely, depending on your internet speed and computer's performance.
  4. Restart your computer after running the tool to ensure the components are properly updated.

If the the issue persists, you may need to perform these steps:

  • Rename the QBWUSER.ini file
  • Reinstall using Clean Install
  • Create a new Windows Admin User

For the detailed process, you may check this article: Solutions for when QuickBooks stops working.

That should help you fix the error. Keep me posted if you have any other concerns about QuickBooks, I'll be always here to help you. Have a great day ahead!
