Hi firess2. This is one of the capabilities of the QuickBooks Desktop program known as multi-user hosting. To get set up, I highly recommend you check out the article on setting up and installing a multi-user network for QuickBooks Desktop. The article goes over all the basic requirements and includes a step-by-step guide on setting up the functionality. If you haven't already, it's important you install the QuickBooks Database server manager as well. Follow the article I provided to get on track with that step.
One last article I feel will be a huge help is the article on setting up folder permissions for QuickBooks desktop. Sometimes folder permissions can be assigned incorrectly by default in windows. In that, cause it's pivotal to the process to set the permissions correctly and the article I provided.
If you have any other questions, I always like to recommend the QuickBooks Learn and Support page to new users as it is the easiest way to find step-by-step guides to most actions you may need to perform. Also, feel free to leave a reply below. I'm always excited to help. Have a great rest of your day.
I am planning on upgrading it to 3 users... if i can get a clear way to make what i want to work.
If you have QB 2019 Pro 1 user, you may purchase additional seat for 2 users. Or you can puchase a new license of QB 2020 Pro for 3 users. It costs $800 if you purchase it directly or around $500 thru a partner/reseller.
I can not afford to pay for a host service so i was hoping to basically do it ourselves, as only 2 people would have acess to the quickbooks (myself and my husband)
You may deploy a private cloud to combine LAN users and mobile users working on the same file at the same time. It costs $25/month per mobile access and you may utilize it in turns between any mobile users to lower the cost. If you don't have any budget that much, you may consider ST as the remote desktop app.
