Renaming a restored copy to use as a sandbox

I tried asking in chat session but couldn't seem to word my question in a way the tech could understand so I came here with hope for help. I created a restored copy for my CEO to experiment with, but the concern was that even though we renamed the new copy when you load the new copy in the top bar of the application it has the name of the 'main' database that I copied and not the new name.

My goal is to either change the name so when it is loaded it is clear which database you are working in so there is no chance to ruin the main database. Is this possible.

Thank you in advance for helping lost souls find there way in the QB universe.

Renaming a restored copy to use as a sandbox

Hi, @Relsch.

You should be able to rename your restored file in QuickBooks Desktop. After changing the name, I recommend closing, then reopening QuickBooks to refresh the page. You can also update it to the latest release. Here's how:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Search for QuickBooks Desktop. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator.
  3. While on the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Go to the Options tab. Select Mark All and then select Save.
  5. Go to the Update Now tab and select the Reset Update checkbox.
  6. Click on Get Updates.

For other options on how to update QuickBooks, you can check out this link: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Moreover, here's how you can learn more about renaming your QBDT company file.

Let me know how else I can help you with updating a restored copy of your file. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!
