Got a QBM type portable file from client. Tried to restore it to my new QB Desktop pro but encountered an error 'This company file needs to be updated. Please ask your QB Admin to update the file'.
By the way, I tried to restore QBM file with another client and it worked. probably something is wrong with the one I mentioned above.
This means you're not logging into the file using the Admin (or I think Accountant) user for this file, which is required in order to update the company to a newer version-year of QuickBooks.
