Is it possible for a client to restore a backup I created in my QB Desktop Accountant edition using their regular QB desktop edition (i.e., non Accountant edition)? The client is hitting snags in trying to do so. I was wondering if there is some sort of work-around. We're both using QB2020 verisons.
Did they encounter any error message? If they are using QBD Pro or Premier, make sure your version is not QBD Enterprise Accountant.
Yes. They did get a message, but I didn't have an opportunity to see it myself. Sounds like it was along the lines of "You can restore a backup from Quickbooks Accountant edition". They are on QB Desktop 2020, not Enterprise. I created the backup from QB 2020 Desktop Accountant's edition.
Allow me to provide additional details about restoring the accountant's QBB file, BHousemanCPA.
A client can restore the accountant's file if it's coming from the client itself.
In QuickBooks Desktop, it's called "Accountant's Copy" where you send it to your accountant so he/she can review your books and work on it at the same time.
After making changes to the file, the accountant will export it. Then, the client will import the Accountant's Changes.
Learn more about this process through this article: Use the Accountant's Copy. It provides instructions and workflows.
