I use a Mac with 10.15.6 and want to run QB Prem 2020 as the QB Mac version does not support inventory nor assembly items, which are crucial for our store.
I have the QB data stored on a Mac folder.
I ran Parallels without any problems, was able to load the company file from the Mac folder, save my changes back to the Mac and also make QB backup to a Mac folder.
I now downloaded VMware Fusion 12, setup my Win 10, setup shared folders in the VM, installed QB Prem 2020 with latest patches, started QB, but when I now select the company from the Mac folder I get an error that it cannot be opened. The error code is -6176 0. The suggestion is to run disk doctor, but it did not find any problem with the company file.
The strange thing is, after I copied the company file to a Win10 directory I could open the QB company file, was even able to save QB back to the Mac folder.
But this is not a solution for me as now I would have all changes in Windows which is not backed up by my CCC backup program.
Is anybody else running QB und VMware Fusion and were you able to open your company file from a Mac folder?
Welcome back to the Community, @gerdgoebel.
The error code -6176, 0 means that the firewall is blocking the connection between the two computers. To fix this, let's configure your firewall ports and to set up an exception to your anti-virus software.
Here's how to do it:
Repeat the steps (except select Outbound Rules on step 4) above to create outbound rules. For more information about configuring firewalls, check out this article: Set up firewall and security settings for QuickBooks Desktop.

I should have mentioned this before. I have a Parallels VM running W10 with QB installed. Here I don't have any problems opening my company file from the Mac Folder.
I imported this VM to Fusion 12. I compared the firewall settings in the Parallels VM with the Fusion VM and they look identical.
I did a repair on QB in the Fusion VM but still have the same error. Next I deinstalled QB, rebooted the VM, installed QB again, installed latest updates. Now the error is gone but it now takes about 5 minutes before I get the company logon screen, then another 5 minutes before I get into QB.
Hello gerdgoebel, I appreciate you for providing further clarification.
I can see you've been through a lot of troubleshooting to fix the -6176 0 error code. We can do a clean install of your QuickBooks Desktop to let QuickBooks runs efficiently and experience it without delay.
The process includes uninstalling, renaming installation folders, and then perform QuickBooks Desktop re-installation. To guide you further, please follow the steps below:
Afterward, rename the installation folder and reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. Though, I'd like to include this article where the complete steps of renaming the folder can be found. Uninstall QuickBooks and manually rename the installation folders.
If the same thing happens, I would suggest getting in touch with our specialist to further check and investigate what's triggers QuickBooks to run slowly. Here's how to connect with them:
Please let me know how everything goes. I want to make sure that you're all set. If you still have other concerns, comment below. Stay. Also, please know that I've updated this answer so you can follow the steps of clean install.
Just to let you know this is not the QB Mac version, but rather QB Prem 2020 running on VMware Fusion 12 VM. There is no PLIST for QB windows.
I also did first a repair, then an uninstall/reinstall. It resolved the .6176,0 error, but introduced the 10 min startup time.
I have the German version of the former Quicken app running without any problems or delays. Also a tax app running just fine. Both use the data files from the Mac folder.
Thank you for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community, gerdgoebel. I'm happy you were able to get the 6176,0 error resolved. If your computer meets the specifications and you are still receiving performance issues, increasing your RAM can potentially improve these problems. To check to see how much RAM you need to operate QuickBooks, simply multiply the size of your file in GB by the number of users.
For more information on resolving program performance/startup speed, I encourage you to review this article. Please let me know if you have any questions about QuickBooks' performance. I'll be around to assist you. Keep me posted and be safe.
Even thought the error is resolved, opening a company is not, as it takes about 5 minutes before I get the logon screen then another 5 minutes before I get into the company file.
I have 4 processors with 8GB of memory assigned in the VM, that should be plenty to run my company file.
Even though the error is resolved, opening the company file is not. I now takes about 5 minutes before I get the logon screen, then another 5 minutes before I get into QB.
Hardware should not be a problem as I have 4 processors with 8GB or memory assigned to the VM.
It's good to know that the error is now resolved, agerdgoebel.
With regard to opening your company file, it should only take a few seconds, especially you have enough memory and a good number of processors to handle QuickBooks. In fact, you have the Fusion 12 hyper processor. However, there could be some activities in the background that slows down the process of opening a company file since this setup is not usual for QuickBooks for Windows.
I would recommend seeking help from IT professionals, especially the one who has expertise in Fusion 12.

I have a pretty basic Win10 installation with just 3 apps for which there is no Mac equivalent. My QB runs fine in a Parallels VM, but Fusion is giving me grief and pain.
The problem is that VMware does not provide any help during a trail, thus, you need to rely on the community for help. And lots of trials and errors.
I'm trying to discover if I should get Parallels or Fusion for this purpose as well. I'm also running Premiere Manu& Wholesale for assemblies, etc...
What did you end up deciding on performance-wise?
We prefer Parallels and half of our team is running QBD 2015-2021 on it to date.
