Scheduled Backups are not limiting the number of Backups

I've been using QB (Desktop, Pro) for about 9 years.  We have always used Scheduled Backups.  We recently installed QB Pro 2020 on a new Windows 10 installation.  After some issues getting them to work (Windows 10 settings -- covered in another thread), the backups seem to run as scheduled.

However, The option to "limit the number of backups" does not work.  In the past, the scheduled backups would be named SBU_x_[Company_Name]-[Date/Time].QBB.

Each time the scheduled backup would run, it would create a new file called SBU_0, and rename the older ones SBU_1, SBU_2, SBU_3..... etc, for however many backups to the specified "limit", eventually deleting the oldest one.

This no longer appears to happen, and it just continues to create new "SBU_0" backups, and doesn't rename/delete the older ones.

This seems to have started with QB 2020.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Re: Scheduled Backups are not limiting the number of Backups

Thank you for using QuickBooks Pro for the longest time, cancoder.

Let's try to re toggle the number of limits to refresh the setup. Here's how:

  1. Click File on the menu.
  2. Scroll through Back Up Company, then select Create Local Backup.
  3. Select Local backup, then click Next.
  4. Enter a new number for the limit.

Save the changes then go through the process again and enter the desired number of limit.

Please let me know how it goes. I'll be around if you need more help.

Re: Scheduled Backups are not limiting the number of Backups

Hi @MaryLurleenM ,

Thank you for the reply.  I think I finally got this sorted.  After the recent QB update, the issue still persisted.  I tried to modify the backup as you suggested, but QB would not let me edit any of the settings.  I was forced to delete the schedule, both in Task Scheduler, as well as the QB interface, and create a NEW Schedule through QB.

Subsequently, I needed to change the "Configure For" setting to "Windows 10" in Task Scheduler as referenced by the other thread:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/install/re-scheduled-backups-are-not-working-in-wi...

It appears after last nights backup, that the files are indeed finally getting renamed.  I will keep an eye on it.

Could you PLEASE refer these issues to your developers?  It is bizarre to me that the latest update of QB 2020 still requires an obscure, manual adjustment in the Windows Task Scheduler to work with Windows 10.
