Shipping Manager Print Two reference numbers on UPS Shipping Label

Our UPS account is set up to print two reference numbers on the shipping label. The QB Shipping Manager only has a single "Reference" field, so there is a reference number that prints on the label that we cannot control and always prints a garbage string. How do we adjust correctly two distinct reference numbers?

This functionality is available in QB Shipping Manager for USPS and FedEx, but is NOT available in UPS, where we need it.

When we contacted support, we were told that Shipping Manager is a 3rd party product that was integrated into QB, and is not supported by Intuit. When we contacted the 3rd party, we were told they didn't support Shipping Manager, but they offered to sell us their commercial product, ShipRush.

We were told this support question (critical for us being able to use Quickbooks as we intended and as presented to us by the Sales department) was being escalated, but it's been over a week and we've heard nothing.

Has anyone else found a way to control two reference numbers on the shipping label with QB Shipping Manager???

Thank you for sharing the details, Edward.

Allow me to share with you some information about QuickBooks Desktop Shipping Manager.

At this time, shipping with UPS only allows you to print one reference number. As a workaround, you can either add the second reference number manually (on any available field Note/ Description).

I can see the importance of adding/printing two distinct numbers on the UPS Shipping Label. I'll take note of the details and pass along the information to our product developers. Rest assured they're working nonstop to deliver the best experiences for all QuickBooks users.

To stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and feature enhancements, I recommend checking out our blog.

Thank you Angelyn_T, I'll give it try.

The developer's forum seems to be more appropriate if I were creating my own add-on to Quickbooks, but I posted a question. The restriction of 255 characters is very little. This is what I posted:

"The QB Shipping Manager only has a single "Reference" field, so there is a reference number that prints on the label that we cannot control and always prints a garbage string. How do I set two reference numbers for the shipping label?"

The other links to shipping manager FAQ and setup instructions I've been pointed to repeatedly by support, but there is no mention at all of "Reference Numbers" so they are no help at all. I would like to hear in this question if anyone uses Shipping Manager to print their shipping labels for UPS, and if so, how many Reference numbers do you use. Is there a setting on UPS.com that helps?

I have received nothing from the developer support. Please continue to find other avenues of support. This is a critical question, one which will determine whether we can use Shipping Manager in the long run.

Shipping Manager Print Two reference numbers on UPS Shipping Label

I have the EXACT same problem!  Our production team relies on those TWO reference numbers.  I am going to abandon the QuickBooks / Intuit Shipping Manger and go back to UPS WorldShip where I can CONTROL the two reference numbers!! This is beyond frustrating!!

Did you ever get an ACTUAL answer to this? I just want to get rid of that Reference No. 1: UPS000000000000000000001 garbage, but can't seem to find a way to do that... It prints every time, even when I don't have ANYTHING typed into the reference field...

Thanks for joining this thread, Ckrieger.

I can certainly understand how an ability to remove shipping labels could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while using QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, Send Feedback Online, then Product Suggestion....
  2. Choose a Type of Feedback and Product Area (optional) from the available drop-down menus.
  3. Enter any suggestions/feedback in your Here is my suggestion: field.
  4. If you'd like, include your name/email in the My name is: (optional) and My e-mail address is: (optional) fields.
  5. Select Send Feedback.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by checking out Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a great day!
