Switching names between lists causing Quickbooks to shut down

Does anyone else have this problem?

Due to payroll company automation, new employees are added in as 'Other' and not as employees.  When I open the 'Other Names List' and click the 'Change Type' button, my Quickbooks shuts down when completing the action.  This is happening again and again over the last few months, but was not a problem earlier.

Switching names between lists causing Quickbooks to shut down

Hello there, Ray-ash.

There might be data damage causing this error. To resolve this, let's use the Rebuild Data tool that can resolve minor and common data issues. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, then click Utilities.
  2. Select Rebuild Data.
  3. Click OK, then follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
  4. Let the tool repair your file. It may take some time. QuickBooks may seem stuck, but as long as you can move your mouse, the tool is working.
  5. When the tool finishes, select OK.
  6. Go to the File menu. Then hover over Utilities and select Verify Data.
  7. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

If QuickBooks doesn't find any problems, select OK. If QuickBooks finds an issue with your company file, select Rebuild Now.

If the error persists, you can use this next step: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks Mary,

I rebuilt the data twice, but the problem still persists.

Switching names between lists causing Quickbooks to shut down

Thank you for getting back to us, @Ray-ash.

I appreciate the time doing all you can to resolve this issue, and I want to make sure this is taken care of.

Since verifying and rebuilding your data doesn't fix the issue, let's run the Quick Fix from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. It'll run a quick repair on your program. Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Downloaded the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the downloaded file and install it.
  4. Once done, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  5. From the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  6. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  7. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

If you get the same result, you can check out this article for more troubleshooting steps: Solutions for when QuickBooks has stopped working.

Just in case the solutions on the article still don't work, I highly suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can investigate this matter further and provide additional troubleshooting steps to get this resolve. They can also create an investigation ticket if other users are experiencing the same.

Please let me know how it goes in the comment section below. I'm only a post away if you have any follow-up questions.
