syncing contacts

Hi, I'm trying to turn on contact sync in quickbooks2020 for Mac. When attempt to click the check box "Use Contact Sync", I get a pop up that says that quickbooks cannot access contacts and to go to Security & Privacy sections of Systems Preferences to make sure Quickbooks has permission to access contacts. I'm running Catalina version 10.15.4 on my Mac. The trouble is that in the said Security and Privacy, under the Contacts tab the app Quickbooks is not listed as having asked for permission to access contacts, so I cannot enable it. QB doesn't think it has access to my contacts and the operating system doesn't seem to think that QB is asking for permission to access my contacts.

Welcome to the Community, srcqubo.

Updating the QuickBooks Desktop release version is a good start when it comes to fixing program-related issues and makes sure to create a back up copy of your company file.

After the update, you can follow the steps below to turn the Contact Sync feature in QuickBooks Desktop for mac:

  1. Click QuickBooks and choose Preferences.
  2. On the Preferences pane, select Contact Sync.
  3. Click the Use Contact Sync checkbox.

You can get more details about this feature in this article: Contacts and QuickBooks: Syncing your contacts.

To help guide you in using QuickBooks for Mac 2020, you can check this guide for your reference: QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2020 User’s Guide.

Let me know how it goes or if you ran into a different situation by leaving a reply below. I'll be around to help.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that did not do it. I'm using the most updated version of QB for Mac (version 19.0.4.856 R5). When I check the Use Contact Sync checkbox, I get the attached error message.

The problem is that under security and privacy --> contacts there are no apps asking for permission to use contacts. I'd expect to see QB here so I can grant it permission to access contacts but it's not there.

Thank you for getting back, @srcqubo.

It seems that QuickBooks already have permission to access your contacts. Since you've already updated your version, you shouldn't get this prompt after turning on the Use Contact Sync feature.

I'd recommend reaching out to our Mac Support so they can access your account and investigate this issue using their tools.

Let me know how it goes. I want to ensure you get all the help you need. I'm here if you have other questions. Have a good one.

Unfortunately Mac support was not able to assist me with this problem. They suggested I contact Apple, which I did, and they said it's a software glitch with QB Mac and it would need a patch from QB.

Hi srcqubo,

I understand that you've already exhausted all the resources to be able to access your contacts, and I know that you've already contacted Apple's and our Support.

Since we're unable to do further troubleshooting steps here, I would recommend contacting our Support again. Please let them know that you've already contacted Apple about this matter. That way, they can report this.

Thank you for your patience, and let us know if you have additional questions in mind.

I've been having same issues. I spoke with QB and they told me they are working on it but that was weeks ago!

I was told the same as well from Apple and QB.

Hi there, prestigeirrigation.

I know that this hasn't been easy for you and your business. I've asked our software engineers about this issue and was informed that they're still currently working to get this resolved for you. Please know your contact information is already added to our notification list since you already contacted us.

We'll be providing you updates via email once we get this sorted out and I'll also let you know through this thread.

As we do our best to rectify it as soon as possible, you'll want to drag and drop your contacts from Apple’s Contacts app into any contact list in QuickBooks in the meantime.

You can also read our Contacts and QuickBooks Guide to help efficiently manage your contacts.

If I can be of any additional assistance, please don't hesitate to leave a reply in the comment section. Stay safe and healthy.

I am having exactly the same problem using the most recent updates to QB 2020 for Mac and Catalina OS. Furthermore, I can not simply "drag and drop your contacts from Apple’s Contacts app into any contact list in QuickBook" b/c when I drag a contact over to an open QB contacts window and release it will not accept/drop any contacts into QB. I've also tried dragging using command or option or control b/c sometimes those fix problems but nothing works. This is very frustrating, this is a prominently noted feature to entice purchase and it should not be something that QB is still "working to get this resolved" after it is released.

Please let me know when an update is released.

Hi there, @DB61.

To be notified when the issue is fixed, I suggest contacting Mac Support team to further verify and dig in the possible resolutions. They have the tools to do the assessments in solving the issues and they will be the one that'll put you on the list of affected users.

You can click this link to route you to the Mac Support team: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact. From there, you can follow the on-screen instructions and give some of your details to let them reach you especially if you choose Call back or Chat us option. Also, the support hours have been changed due to lack of staffing during this situation. Thank you for your patience with this issue.

I also recommend checking the help article given by my colleague @KlentB for more information about syncing your contacts in QuickBooks.

I'll be here if you need anything else. Keep safe always.
