Template Corrupted?

Hello!

I'm reaching out here because I've exhausted resources on Google, and none of the automated help pages have been of assistance. I am using Quickbooks Enterprise 18.0

While editing a custom template, I was having trouble getting the columns in the main body to arrange themselves in the way that I wanted them to. I thought that disabling, then reenabling all of the check boxes might reset their ordering, so I tried it. When I turned them back on again. I was given a popup error, and then the main body of columns was so massively sized that it's impossible to work with. It towers above the top and bottom margins of the page. It is so large, in fact, that the dimension counter at the bottom of the layout designer window reads "2.31 x 12288...." and when I try to crop it that number only slightly decreases. As far as I can understand, I cannot directly edit those dimension variables unless I used some a hack tool to change them during runtime, but I'm worried that doing so might permanently alter my Quickbooks file negatively. If I were to continuously drag the edges to resize the field it would quite literally take an entire day or two. Is there any way to work with this template, or am I forced to recreate it?

Hi there, @Big_W.

It's possible that there's a data issue with your company file that's causing this behavior. You can still fix this template by running the verify rebuild tools in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Using these features will help you identify its cause and resolve it using the Rebuild Data tool.

Let's run the Verify Data tool by following these steps:

  1. Close the QuickBooks windows by clicking Window, then select Close All.verify1.PNG
  2. Click File and select Utilities. Select Verify Data.

verify2.PNG

If you see your data has lost integrity, this indicates that there is data damage in the file.  Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data to correct the problem.

  1. Click File and select Utilities.
  2. Choose Rebuild Data. You'll be prompted to backup your company file. This will ensure you have a secured copy of your company file before any changes are made to it.
  3. Once the backup is finished, the Rebuild Data utility starts.
  4. Select OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

Once done, check again your template. If you're still getting the same issue, you can delete and recreate it again. Just follow these steps to remove it:

  1. Go List and select Templates.
  2. Click the template and select Delete in the Templates drop-down list.

Once done, follow the steps in this article to recreate or edit your template: How to customize or create a template in QBDT.

Template Corrupted?

Hey @ReymondO

Thanks for getting back to me so soon!

I have tried rebuilding the data file, but that did not make a difference. I was forced to recreate the template, which is annoying but not the end of the world. Is this something you can pass on to the software team? This should be an easy fix on their side where would simply add a check where if the height of the main data column exceeds the height of the page then it will change it back to some value within the height of the page. They obviously already have some sort of system that recognizes this judging from the dialog box that was presented upon trying to edit the template. It would also be a great tool, for anyone who knows what they're doing, to be able to directly manipulate the sizing of the data fields, which is already displayed in the boxes at the bottom right of the editor.
