The inventory valuation detail does not tie to the Adjusted TB, why would that occur?

We are using the default inventory method of Average Cost, however the GL (or adj TB) does not tie back to the inventory valuation detail report. I am unsure if the cause is something simple such as a setting not correct, but there is no easy way to find the discrepancy.  Does anyone have thoughts on what we might do to resolve this situation.

The inventory valuation detail does not tie to the Adjusted TB, why would that occur?

Hi there, Chad.

Let's narrow down the possibilities of why the Inventory Valuation Detail Report does not tie back when adjusting your Trail Balance Report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To start, let's ensure we run both reports in the same reporting period. This is to display the same transaction made within the period and the amounts.

To verify the discrepancies, we can manually check all the transactions in both reports. Let's pull up both reports and proceed to the steps below:

  1. Given that you already have the two reports in front, let's double-click the Inventory Asset amount from the Trial Balance Report to route us to the detailed entries.

  2. From the Transaction by Account, see what transaction creates the discrepancies by comparing it to the Inventory Valuation Report.

  3. Once found, you can verify that the transaction should be in the account and correct it if necessary.

Otherwise, we can start by performing the Verify Rebuild function that assists users in maintaining the integrity of their financial data files, including reports. This option is essential when users encounter data issues or suspect data corruption. Before that, please back up your company file and update it to the latest release to download the latest fixes available in the application.

Then, proceed with the steps below:

Verify Data:

  1. Press the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Tap OK to continue.

Rebuild Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top.
  2. Select Utilities from the drop-down option.
  3. Choose Rebuild Data.
  4. Click OK when the Rebuild has completed.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you customize and save the current customization setting of the report:

@Chad-HALO

Journal entries (JEs) are the most likely culprit.  When I filter by 'Transaction Type' to include JEs, they don't show up on the Inventory Valuation Detail report for whatever reason.  If you have made JEs/adjusting entries to inventory, that's where I'd start.
