Thanks for following up and providing the clarification, @sjm2. I'm here help with adding payment options to your invoices.

How the invoice is sent will determine the options available for accepting customer payments. If you don't have Online invoicing enabled, you will need to turn this feature on, here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon.
  2. Click Account and Settings.
  3. Select Sales on left of the page.
  4. Click on the Pencil icon next to Online delivery.
  5. Select the drop-down box under Additional email options for invoices and choose Online invoice.
  6. Click Save and Done.

I've included a screenshot to serve as an example of this:

For additional insight into invoicing, such as customization options, I recommend the following article: How to Create an Invoice.

With the information above, the options for Online Payment will appear on your invoices. In the event that you should have questions about this, or need anything else, you can find me here.

I'll help you fix that, sjm2.

Make sure that your GoPayment is already linked with your QuickBooks account. If so and still won't appear, check your custom template for payments.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon then choose Custom Form Styles
  2. Click the Edit link on the template you use for invoices.
  3. Select the Payments tab and both online payment option should be checked.
  4. Then click Done

Hi Catherine,

Thanks much for your response. Unfortunately, this is still not working for me.

Step 1 below was to make sure that the Payment account is linked to my Quickbooks account. I followed the directions in the link you provided. When I go to Gear>Account and Settings>Payment, there is a "Merchant Details" section, with my banking info for deposits. At the bottom of that page is a"Payment Methods" section which shows "Cards" and "Bank Transfer."

Step 2 was to go into Custom Form Styles and make sure that both payment methods are checked under the Payments tab for the invoice form I use. I have done that, and they are both checked.

Even after following these steps, the Payment Options check boxes are not there when I generate a new invoice. (I checked to make sure I was using the same form that I had just confirmed in Custom Form Styles.)

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi James,

If you're using the QuickBooks Online product, you should be able seeing the Gear icon. However, if you're not seeing this icon, this might be caused by having too much data in your browser. Let's try following the recommended basic troubleshooting steps to get this fix.

You can use an incognito window when signing in to your QuickBooks account. Then, let's check if you can now see the Gear icon. If the Gear icon is showing there, you can go back to your original browser and clear the cache. It makes QuickBooks work properly.

Alternatively, you can use other browsers like Mozilla, Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari.

In the custom form styles we have both check boxes checked under Payments, however that doesn't do the trick.  We need to select all the check boxes in all our thousands of invoices instead of having to do them one by one.  Is there a way to do that?

Thanks,

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @prosperacctg.

If the transactions you're referring to are before accepting payment online, please know that marking them can only be done manually one by one. Previous invoices will follow the template selected the time it was created from the account.

Once you subscribed to QuickBooks Payments, the ACH and Credit Card boxes on invoices will show with checkmarks moving forward. We take our customers suggestions as a guide on which area of the product we should enhance.

I’ll send feedback on your behalf about this feature for consideration in future updates.

For additional reference, I'm also attaching the Sign up for QuickBooks Payments article. It contains some information about how accepting payments online works and the sign up process.

Hi,

Is it possible to enable Online Payments options on Invoices in Sandbox?

I have a payments account linked to my sandbox company. Payments shows Subscribed and displays the linked Merchant Id.

I have tried the steps described, but when I change the Additional email options for invoices to Online Invoices and hit save, it doesn't stick. I reload the page page, and it still shows Plain Text.

Then when I go to Custom Form Styles, the Payments tab doesn't show.

Hello there, ovidiu_eremia.

Based on the details you've shared with me, I can see that your payments account are already linked to your sandbox company. I've also tried changing Additional email options for invoices to Online Invoices and it seems to work fine. Also, as long as you've linked the payment account within QuickBooks, we'll be able to see the Payments tab in the Custom Form Style.

In this situation, it could be that these unusual behavior might have something to do with a browser issue. With that being said, the browser might having too much cache that made QuickBooks feature not responding properly.

Below are the things that we can try on to resolve this unexpected behavior. Here's how:

  1. Refresh your browser by clicking the Reload icon or pressing F5 on your keyboard.
  2. If the same thing happens, we can try to log in to your account through an incognito window. This mode doesn't store cache that's why we recommend using it.
  3. Once logged in, let's try to change the Additional email options for invoices to Online Invoices one more time. Then, check the Custom form Style area if the Payments tab is showing. If it works fine, we can clear the cache of your the regular browser. This helps remove any browser-related issues and refresh your browser's settings.

Aside form that, you can other compatible browser's in QuickBooks Online. Below are the things that you can try on:

  • Mozilla
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • For Safari, make sure to use the latest one.

Know that you can always tap me on my shoulder if you ever need anything else with QuickBooks. I'll be around to back you up. Stay safe!

Thanks for joining us here in the Community, @khyati.

I'd like to ensure that you'll be able to select the Online invoice for as the Additional email option of your invoices in QuickBooks Online.

When creating modifications in QuickBooks Online, you'll need to make sure that you hit the Save button to save the changes. However, if the problem continues, I recommend performing the troubleshooting steps shared by SarahannC above. This way, we'll be able to identify if the issue is browser-related.

If doing this doesn't make a difference, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the necessary tools that can help isolate the root cause of this hurdle and apply a permanent fix.

For your reference, you can always scan through these links below that contain details about how your customers can pay their invoices online on how online payments works:

When I go to add the payments to the custom order form the tab is not there. Do you have to have a certain level of permissions for this action or is there another issue?

Allow me to chime in and clarify why you’re unable to see the Payments tab, KMark.

Yes, you’re right. There’s a certain level of permission so you can connect your company to a merchant account. Make sure you can log in to  QBO as the master administrator to ensure a seamless connection. If you’re already the admin and have tried the suggestions shared by my peers, we'll have to determine why you're unable to see the Payments tab. It requires the collection of personal data to pull up an account.

Since we prioritize the safety of our customers' information, I recommend you get in touch with our Merchant Support Team. One of our specialists can review the setup of your company in a secure space. From there, they can help apply the permanent solution to fix the issue. The contact information and service hours can be found here: Contact Payments Support.

Let me share the Link your merchant account for additional information. It provides the step by step process on how to connect a payments account to QBO and screenshots for visual reference. In addition, the following guide outlines the complete instructions on how to change the account used to deposit customer payments and a link to turn on payment options for invoices: Connect your QuickBooks Payments account to QuickBooks Online.

I uploaded invoices, i have the Online Delivery set to Online invoice and my invoice payments are set to on to receive credit cards in Accounts and Settings under Sales.  However, my invoices I uploaded all have the credit card option to OFF so i have to manually go in to each one, does that sound right?

Good day, MicheleNCL.

When you add transactions in QuickBooks Online, some information or fields are not uploaded due to the import limitations. You're doing the right process in enabling the credit card option manually.

For more details about importing from Excel, you can check out these articles:

I'll be around if you have more questions about importing or other concerns with QuickBooks Online. Take care and stay safe.

Hi. I did everything according to the instructions.

  • Click on the Pencil icon next to Online delivery.
  • Select the drop-down box under Additional email options for invoices and choose Online invoice.
  • Click Save and Done.

It says that "Settings saved".

I open these settings again and see old settings in "Additional email options for invoices" field. That is, new settings are not saved. What can i do now?

You will still see the Additional email options for invoices after saving the changes, Asker1.

The only difference is Online invoice should be seen. Here's an example:

If not, you can follow the browser troubleshooting provided above to resolve the error.

Please let me know how it goes. I'd love to help you more.
