I have the steps to help you fix the application error message on the Taxes menu.
When a browser's cache storage is full or corrupted, it can cause error messages on certain webpages (such as the Taxes menu) in QuickBooks Online. Let's rule this out by using an incognito or private browser:
Log in to QuickBooks on the private browser. Then, access the Taxes menu. When there are no application error messages, close it out and go back to the regular browser.
Next, clear the cache to remove the corrupted webpage data. Finally, close all running instances of your browser to apply the new cache storage changes.
As an alternative, you can use another supported browser.
If you're using the QuickBooks Online Windows app, you'll want to click on Help then select Reset App Data.

I appreciate doing all the steps provided by my colleague. In addition to chris253's issue, the same error message can also be caused by a problem within the system. Though, it usually happens when there's a corrupted cache data.

This was actually an issue yesterday but our engineers have managed to resolved it. If you're still getting the error message, I suggest clearing your cache to resolve it.
