Hi there, @Ceylon.

I can help walk you through the steps on how to change the number separator on your computer.

The display of numeric fields like dates, times, etc. depends on your Regional Settings. It can be adjusted depending on the windows you're using.

For Windows 10, here's how:

  1. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.
  2. Choose Change date, time, or number formats.

         3. Click Additional Settings from the Region dialog.

       4. Select Numbers then hit the drop-down arrow in Digit grouping.

       5. Tap OK to make your settings effective.

For Windows 7:

  1. Go to the Window Settings, then click Control Panel.
  2. Hit Clock, Language, and Region, then tap Regional and Language Options.
  3. On the Formats tab, under the Current format, click Customize this format.
  4. Choose the Numbers button and change the format.

Hi @MichelleBh thank you for your prompt reply !! however I have tried what you have posted. Still it doesn't change the format in my existing company file while the correct number format shows if I open up a new company file. Please advice with this regards on how to apply it for the current company file. TIA

Hi there, @Ceylon.

Allow me to share some details about the number formatting in QuickBooks Desktop.

When you install QuickBooks, it "reads" the format used for Windows and when you enter data, QuickBooks follows the established format for the geographical region you selected. Changing the Windows setting to "English (United States) will change the comma to a decimal point to separate dollars and cents. This is the first troubleshooting step you've performed.

This set up is related to the activation of multi-currency, that's why you're able to see the number format different. Once multi-currency is on, home currency won't be changed and you can no longer turn it off.

The possible situation where the decimal point/comma issue in QuickBooks relates to another issue than a comma placement issue is in the Preference tab. Here's how to turn on the Auto place a decimal point:

  1. Go to the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click General, check the box for Automatically place decimal point.
  3. Select OK.

I've added a screenshot for your additional reference.

I've included this article to know more about the multicurrency feature: Set up and use Multicurrency.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have other concerns or questions about QuickBooks. Take care.

Hi @Ceylon

Did you sorted out this? I am suffering from the same issue. I did all these setting changes too.

I've got some steps to help you fix the error, Chamikara.

Let's make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release before doing anything in your program. Once done, open a sample company file and check if you're getting the thousand separator error.

Here's how:

  1. Go to File > Close Company/Log Off.
  2. In the No Company window, click the Open a sample file drop-down list and select a sample file.

If it works and there's no error, go back and open your company file. The data might have been damaged. To resolve this issue, we can do the Verify and Rebuild Data. The instructions are lain out in this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Otherwise, repair your QuickBooks Desktop. Please make sure to create a back up copy your company file to save everything.

Please keep us posted on how this goes. I'll be around to help until a solution is found. Thanks.
