Join nowMy firm has an Online QB license and a Desktop license. We've moved everything from online to desktop and do not use the online version for accounting purposes. My boss would like to transfer the license from our company to one of his other companies. Is it possible to transfer a license, or would it be necessary to purchase a new license?
I spent an hour and a half chatting with two different QB chat experts yesterday trying to determine the answer. I don't know if I was asking the "wrong" questions or if there was some other breakdown in communication, but it was very frustrating.
QBs really doesn't like to transfer licenses and I believe there are very few cases they'll do it. There's a form someplace on line to fill out if needed. However.... Is your boss the registered owner of the QBO License you currently have?
If so, you're not really transferring anything. Just start a new company under the current license. (Be sure to delete the old Company File, you can't have two companies under the same license.)
Do you need to transfer the data in your QBO account? You may cancel it and open a new blank QBO account instead for another company.
