trouble restoring backup

Using QB Desktop Pro 2018.  I am going to be working from a different computer for an extended time.  So I created a backup copy of my company file and saved it to my OneDrive.  I am now trying to restore that backup copy on the new computer.  It get about 74% of the file and then get a pop up window:

1 Interrupted Action

An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file.  If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired.

My options are to try again, skip, or cancel.  I Googled the error code and ran the recommended fix and restarted my computer but still get it.  This error is most common when transferring something via a USB drive, etc. - which I'm not.

Anyone have any other solutions?  I've already left on vacation so I can't backup the file to any kind of hardware - it has to be via One Drive or DropBox or something along those lines to be able to restore.

Re: trouble restoring backup

hi @ horseshowmgr ,

Try downloading QBB file to your local computer and restoring it. Second option, access your QuickBooks by remote application (Teamviewer or other apps) or ask someone to send your QBW file to cloud.

Re: trouble restoring backup

Fiat Lux - thank you.  I worked on that for nearly an hour and didn't even think about downloading the file to my local computer.  Worked just like it should!

Re: trouble restoring backup

hi @pellis ,

Can you open the sample file or create a new file?

Re: trouble restoring backup

Thanks for providing a screenshot, pellis.

I know the reason why you’re getting the message.  This happens if you’ve accessed the company file using the newer version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To resolve this, you’ll have to look for a company file which isn’t opened using the new version. Then, access it using your old version of QBDT.

You can check this article to walk you with the process: Resolve Problems Opening QuickBooks Desktop or your Company File.

Just hit the Reply button below if you have more questions with QuickBooks Desktop. I’ll be glad to help.

Re: trouble restoring backup

hi @pellis ,

You have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service to downgrade the file. Hopefully you have secured any backup file of the old version.
