Unable to email invoices - quickbooks pro 2017 crashes

Hello,

I'm no longer able to email invoices.  The program shuts down every time that I try.  Has anyone else had this issue or have suggestions?  Also, if i try to go into the preferences "send forms" section - it automatically shuts down the program.

Unable to email invoices - quickbooks pro 2017 crashes

Hi there, lbk3767.

It would be my pleasure to help figure out the cause of this strange behavior.

Let me start guiding you by making sure your QuickBooks Desktop has the latest release to ensure you have all the updated components. There are two ways to download the update. You can either perform the process within the software or download the patch through the website.

I'm linking an article for the detailed steps on this: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

After following the steps in the article, please check if you still encounter the issue.

If the problem persists, you can try creating a sample file to check if the problem is only happening to your company file. If you're able to email invoices without QuickBooks crashing, we'll need to run Verify/Rebuild Data Utility on your regular company file.

To run Verify Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Verify Data.

Then, let's run the Rebuild Data:

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Rebuild Data.

If all fails, let's proceed with repairing your QuickBooks Desktop to fix any program-related issues. The article below includes the steps that you can follow to run a repair:

Repair QuickBooks Desktop.

Unable to email invoices - quickbooks pro 2017 crashes

Thank you for the reply.

I had already updated to the latest version yesterday - but I double checked and its the latest version.

I did the verify , rebuild and repair as suggested.  The program still crashes whenever I try to access the send forms in settings, or try to email invoices.

When you say "If the problem persists, you can try creating a sample file to check if the problem is only happening to your company file. " - can you explain how to do that?  Or does it not really matter since I went ahead and did the verify and rebuild?

Hoping you are able to help resolve this.

Thanks,

Lynn

Unable to email invoices - quickbooks pro 2017 crashes

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.  I tried all steps above.

I do have the latest release.  I tried the verify/rebuild, as well as the repair.  I am still seeing the issue.  If I try to access the Options for send forms, the program shuts down, as well as if i try to email invoices.

When you mention "If the problem persists, you can try creating a sample file to check if the problem is only happening to your company file. " , can you tell me how to do that?  Or does it not really matter since I went ahead and did the verify and rebuild anyway.

I hope you are able to help me resolve this issue.  Appreciate the help!

Thanks for getting back to us, @lbk3767.

I appreciate you trying over the steps provided by my colleague. Allow me to step in for a moment help make sure that you'll get the help that you need.

Yes! You may try creating a sample company file as what @AlcaeusF mentioned. To do that, here's how:

1. Go to File menu at the top, then pick Close Company.
2. In the No Company Open window, select the drop-down arrow in the Open a sample file icon.
3. Choose a sample file and click on it.

Once done, create a sample invoice and send it yourself to double check. If you're getting the same result, let's try repairing your QuickBooks since you already performed the Verify and Rebuild. This will help fix any program-related issues or errors. Here's how:

1. Restart your computer, then back up your company file.
2. On the your Desktop, click the Start, then Control Panel.
3. Select Programs and Features, and choose QuickBooks in the list of programs, then pick Uninstall/Change.
4. Click continue and Next, then Repair and Next again.
5. Once done, select Finish and restart your computer if prompted.

For your reference, you can check out this article for further guidance: Repair QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have already done this and the issue still persists, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team this time. They have the tools such as screen-sharing that can pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate further.
