Unable to send invoices through Gmail

I have QB Desktop 2020 and use Gmail for my business. I am unable to send invoices through email. I get an error message that QB cannot connect to the server for my email provider.

I have verified that my password and address are correct.

I have turned off my firewall and that made no difference.

I can send and received mail normally through my gmail account.

I am using smtp.gmail. com as the server name and port 587. I have tried changing the port to 465 with no success. The SSL/TLS box is checked.

I am at a loss what to try next. Any suggestions?

Unable to send invoices through Gmail

Hello, RockyCat.

Thank you for the detailed post, you provided me with a lot of information on troubleshooting steps I would've otherwise recommended, this way we can skip right over those, as we know they aren't the issue. I still have a couple troubleshooting options you may want to try, check them out below.

Check your App preferences:

  1. Follow the steps in this article to enable access to less secure apps.
  2. You can also set access preferences for specific apps, like QuickBooks.
  3. Go back in to QuickBooks and email yourself a sample invoice.

If you still can't send emails, you can turn off the 2-Step Verification feature for your Gmail account. Then, send another sample invoice to check if that would go through.

Also, if you're using McAfee for your antivirus software, open your antivirus program and check your Excluded Processes list. Add these names to the list so they can run freely:

  • QBW32.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBW32.exe
  • QBDBMGRN.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgrN.exe
  • QBDBMGR.exe - C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]\QBDBMgr.exe

If you're still experiencing issues, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer support team, they have the ability to take a deep dive into your account on a much more detailed level than we can here in the Community as it's a public platform.

If you have any other questions, or concerns, feel free to reach out below, thanks for your time and have a lovely weekend.
