Upgrading QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop Version to QuickBooks Online Plus with Payroll Premium

I am researching all that is involved with moving from Quickbooks Enterprise (with Payroll) Desktop Version to Quickbooks Online Plus with Payroll Premium and I was looking for information on the following questions:

1.  I am being told there is a total target maximum of 350,000, however my data file is at 1,471,521.  What would I have to do to be under the target maximum?

2.  Once upgraded is this Target Maximum something I need to be concerned with and if so why?

3.  I was told by QuickBooks sales that their support would assist me, at no charge, decreasing my targets - has this been anyone's experience?

4.  How long does the process take - moving from the desktop version to the online version?

5.  What have been some of the issues anyone has had moving from the Desktop version to the Online version?

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for posting to the Community, @Miller_Lighting.

Let me give you insights on converting your Company file from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

There are some unused list entries in your QBDT data that you may want to remove before converting it to QBO. You can use the Condense Data feature in the Utility menu to get this job done in minimizing the file and decreasing the targets.

It will help you minimize the targets in the conversion process. I'll add this article as your reference when importing the data from QBDT to QBO: Condense your QuickBooks Desktop file to import QuickBooks Online. It includes the reminders in doing so and importing the data.

Yes, you'll need to check the targets for the data to flow seamlessly into their line of detail within a transaction.

There's no charge when someone will assist you from the Tech Support team when you reach for them to get help with condensing the file within QBDT.

The third question will depend on the organization of data and also, targets. In most cases, this will take 30 minutes to an hour or more.

After condensing the Company file, statements may not match, and other reports are different in QBO. You can check this article for more details: What to expect when you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

When you're ready for the conversion, you can reference this video article as your guide during the process: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I'll be happy to help you more if you have more questions about QBDT file conversion. I'll keep my notifications open. Have a great day!

@Miller_Lighting

You should run the condense utility by yourself as mentioned by Jovychris_A. If the Total Targets are still > 350K, you may have some options:

1. Contact the sales who was offering you to condense your file for free.

2. Run the condense utility again to create a new file from certain period. e.g per Dec 31, 2018

3. Purchase a 3rd party condense service

Make sure you have open a QBO account prior to proceed

 https:// quickbooks.grsm.io/US

https:// quickbooks.grsm.io/us-promo

Once you have migrated to QBO, brace yourself to consider purchasing some 3rd party apps to complement your QBO later (e.g inventory management, manufacturing app). Otherwise, you will switch back to QB Desktop.

Third party service providers offer a service known as QuickBooks SuperCondense which is an advanced version of the condense utility and that will significantly reduce the file size of your QuickBooks data file.

SuperCondensing a file reduces the target count to under 350,000 making the transition to QuickBooks Online seamless. It further boosts responsiveness and performance, provides higher network stability and makes your file lesser prone to data corruption issues. Furthermore, this service reduces your file size up to 80%, allowing for the upgrade to newer versions faster and easier. Using this service will not result in any loss of data and you will get a fully usable data file with a reduced file size. Usually the same service providers can then move your data to Premier, Pro, Accountant, or QuickBooks Online with 100% financial accuracy. The conversion includes all data including Payroll and service subscriptions that you may have, including all lists, transactions, users, payroll and templates. All data files are transmitted via secure servers (SSL encrypted) to ensure safety and security during transmission.

PM me if you need some recommendations.

Hi Jovychris,

This information is extremely helpful.  I am currently running Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions Manufacturing and Wholesale - Desktop version.  And I just received an email stating that I can run Enterprise anywhere, anytime, on any device?  What is the difference between this and Quickbooks online Plus?

Thanks

Hello there, Miller_Lighting,

QuickBooks Online is a cloud-based software which lets you connect wherever you are as long as you have an internet-connected device. QuickBooks Enterprise is downloaded directly to your laptop or desktop and operates without internet availability.

You can learn more about their differences and features on these articles:

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Hi MaryLurleen,

I received an email to this advertisement to run Quickbooks Enterprise anywhere, anytime, - https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/enterprise/hosting/?cid=dr_em_01_44210_6672&elqTrackId=22664c8...

This is the online version of QB Enterprise correct?

Thanks

Joining the thread to help with your question, Miller_Lighting.

QuickBooks Enterprise does not have an online version. I opened the link, and the advertisement is for QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise with Hosting. It means that you can install the software on a cloud storage, instead of a physical computer or server.

Because it's on a cloud server, you can access your company file anywhere as long as you're connected to the internet. Please see these articles to add more details how this feature works:

Please don't hesitate to add another reply below if you need anything else.

We can put our QuickBooks Desktop license (not only Enterprise edition) on an QB cloud hosting. You may have 2 options:

1. Cancel your current license and purchase a new QB Enterprise with the hosting license. The service will be maanged by Real Networks.

2. Find other QB cloud hosting services and put your current license and data files on one of them. Explore this authorized QB cloud hosting to compare the cost

Should you need to combine your LAN users and mobile users working on the same file at the same time, you may deploy a private cloud with other solution.
