upgrading software

A new laptop has required me to upgrade from my Quickbooks 2016 for Mac (version V17.2.32 R33). My needs are fairly simple: recording donations and sales, printing receipts and year-end reports.

What version will be best-suited for me to purchase a subscription? I will also need to transfer all of my old records to the new version.

Thanks in advance!

Which OS des your new machine support? MacOS Catalina, MacOS BigSur, or Windows 10? Do you still prefer upgrading to QBD Mac 2021 or migrate to QBO? If you are familiar with QBD, I would recommend to keep it that way if you don't need any new challenge at this moment 8)

Thanks. How can I go about switching back to the QBD? I see all sorts of ways to go from desktop to online, but not vice versa. (I haven't recorded any new transactions since I switched to online). Thanks again!

Hello, degmusic1.

Let me provide you some information so you’ll be able to convert your data from QuickBooks Online to Desktop.

There's no direct way to move your data from QuickBooks Online to Desktop. However, you can export and convert your QBO data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, there is important information to know before exporting data file from QuickBooks Online to Desktop.

  • Right now, exporting into QuickBooks Desktop is only available in the US version of QuickBooks Online.
  • To use the export feature, you must be a Master Administrator, Company Administrator, or invited accountant.
  • Please use a PC with Internet Explorer 10 or higher.
  • You must have a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop for Windows installed on the PC in which you are performing the export. For access to trial versions of the desktop program, for the purposes of export, see QuickBooks Desktop trial links

Here’s how:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Online account and click the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose the Export Data and enter your reason why you're exporting your data. Then, click Continue.
  3. Review your data from the export overview screen. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
  4. In the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to Download.
  5. Then, follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to complete the exporting process.

Once completed, you may now switch over to QuickBooks Desktop to import your data. You can use this article as a reference: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to Desktop
