Website Credit Expense

Hello, If I purchase something let say inventory from a website, and I had site credits from gift cards/etc… and those funds were used instead, how do we notate the cost of goods of the credit used since they're considered money as well, but there no bank feeds to match the cost with

Hi there, @mikelu9661.

Allow me to provide some more info on notating the cost of goods for your purchase.

Since you're purchasing from a vendor, you can record a vendor credit for your purchase. This will allow you to notate the cost of goods for the credit used. I'll provide the steps below to show you how:

  1. Go to the + New menu and select Vendor Credit.
  2. Choose the Vendor and Category.
  3. Enter the amount of credit.
  4. Press Save and Close.

Now you have credit that can be applied to any purchase from that vendor. You can check out this article on using vendor credits to learn more.

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions. Wishing you continued business success now and in the future.

Hmm... my only concern is that will that vendor credit be part of the COGS cost when item is sold? for example item cost is $25, bank feed charge took $20, while $5 was used by site credit. if we're vendor credit the $5, will that eliminate the $25 COGS & making it just $20? since bank feed took 5, because my goal is to have a $25 COGS if that's valid else I would just input $20 on the expense & just match it that way to the bank feed to avoid any further work for the same solution.

Thank you for your clear explanation, @mikelu9661.

I agree with you, yes everything that is linked to a vendor credit will be applied to COGS once the item was sold.

You may follow the steps above given by @Anna S above, on how to record a vendor credit.

Let me add these articles for future reference:

I'll be glad to further assist you for any additional questions, have a great day!
