What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

Welcome to the Community, slnenni. I'll ensure to address your question about the status of your 1099 submission in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The "In agency" status indicates that the IRS has received your submission but hasn't processed or confirmed its acceptance. When the forms are marked as received, your e-file status will be changed to "Agency accepted."

To see an overview of other e-filing statuses and their meanings, please review them below:

  • Received: Intuit received the submission but hasn't been submitted to the agency.
  • Prepared: Intuit converted the submission into the agency-specific format, but it hasn't been submitted to the agency.
  • Succeeded_Agency: The agency has received the payment or filing.
  • Failed_Preparation: Intuit couldn't convert the submission into an agency-specific format. This usually means that there was a problem with the submitted information.
  • Rejected_Agency: The agency rejected the submission. Review the Details button for more information.

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

I have the same message "InAgency" with an e-file date of 1/25/24 for one of my companies.  A second company I e-filed 1099s on 1/26/24 and they were accepted within the hour of filing.  What is causing the delay with the first company that I filed for?

Thank you,

Sandy

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

I understand how important to have clarity about the delay in acceptance of your 1099, sandy.

One possible reason for the delay in acceptance of your 1099 forms by the IRS is due to high volume of submissions during peak tax season.

I recommend reaching out to the IRS for further details on the delay in the acceptance of your 1099 filings. They can provide the necessary information and support to assist you through this process.

Thanks for joining this thread, @cgreene.

Let me answer your question about the filing status of your 1096 form.

When you e-file 1099s the 1096 form will automatically be included on the filing status through QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP)'s 1099 E-File Service. This complies with the IRS e-filing policy

Concerning the time you sent the 1099s. We can only check the Date when you e-file it and can View the summary in the Taxes tab. To view the time, you can check the confirmation e-mail of your e-filed 1099s.

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

Thank you for confirming about the report 1096.

I did receive an email of the charge for filing with Quickbooks. Is that confirmation that it has started the process

But I can still not locate in Taxes tab for the date of filing other then the status is showing InAgency.

Can you please give me instructions to locate the date. I am using quickbooks online

thank you

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

In the Taxes tab then 1099 filings, the page shows me the date I filed even though it still says In Agency.

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

After going through 7 or 8 people and several transfers on the phone with the IRS business people I can confirm that they will only compare and confirm with you your company information. They cannot specifically tell you why the forms were rejected. They do not have access to that information.

They did suggest I could try the FIRE and IRIS number which may be one of the systems that QuickBooks uses to file the 1099s. That number is [removed]. Currently they are too busy to take more calls so it didn't help me.

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

I have this same issue. I filed 4 1099's on 1/19/24 through quickbooks. 3 of them have said InAgency for over 2 weeks and 1 says Approved. It's 2/6/24 now and I don't know if there's anything that I need to do.

I filed another company on 1/30/24 through quickbooks and all 5 were approved the same day.

What does "In Agency" mean when doing 1099s?

Thank you for getting back to us. Let me add some details about this, A47R.

As mentioned by my colleague @Rea_M the InAgency status indicates that the IRS has already received the filing, but has not processed or confirmed the acceptance of the 1099. Please know that the status doesn't affect the filing deadlines for sending the forms to recipients as the IRS and state agencies have already set a deadline.

Once the status changes to Accepted or Processed, this will mean that the forms are already received and are currently being reviewed. The delay in the acceptance of your forms is due to the high volume of submissions during this tax season. You'll want to contact the IRS if you want to know about the status of your forms.
