We can uncheck the Print Later field, CASVAL.

This way, you can enter the Starting check no.

I've added this screenshot as your visual guide:

In case you want to update the payment method for your vendor, you can check this guide: Change a Vendor Payment Method.

Thanks for the response but it does not resolve this issue. On the UK version that we use the pay bills screen does not look like your screenshot. There is no box to the right of the reference number field where we can tick print later. We used to be able to enter our own payment references - either cheque number or online banking reference but this option has disappeared recently. I do not think we have inadvertently changed anything.

The Community has you covered, @CASVAL. I'm here to make sure you can get that payment references entered in the Reference no. field right away.

Missing or broken button in QuickBooks Online is usually the result of outdated or corrupt cache files in your web browser. Browser caches help speed up basic browsing that allows you to save more time when loading repetitive images or information. However, it can impact processes and cause this unexpected behavior when your browser accumulates too much historical data. Not to worry, you can clear them in just a few easy steps.

In the meantime, we can start by accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl+Shift+N
  • Firefox: Ctrl+Shift+P
  • Safari: Command+Shift+N

If it's responsive, I recommend that you clear it's cache. By clearing the browser's cache, you can remove that historical data and access QuickBooks with a clean slate.

Please feel free to visit us again and keep me posted on your progress with this Reference no. field issue. I'm determined to ensure your success.
