When you reverse a payment in the merchant center, does QBO automatically delete the payment?

When you reverse a payment in the merchant center, does QBO automatically delete the payment against the invoice, or do you need to manually delete the payment so the invoice becomes due again?

Re: When you reverse a payment in the merchant center, does QBO automatically delete the payment?

Good day, JoAnneL.

I'd be delighted to help you reverse a payment via the Merchant Center.

To answer your question, reversing a payment in your Merchant Services Center does not mean the payment will automatically be deleted in QuickBooks Online. You'll need to manually delete it.

To reverse a payment:

  1. Find and open the original sales receipt or invoice payment.
  2. Click Issue Refund button at the top right; or, click More at the bottom of the page, then Refund.
  3. Click Yes, refund payment.  This will appear to be a final step - it is not - you will have the option to make adjustments to the amount/items being refunded in the next step.
  4. A new Refund Receipt will open.
  5. Confirm the refund amount, then click Save and Close to process the refund back to the credit card.

Thank you very much.  I knew how to do the reversal, I just didn't know what QBO's response to it would be.

I appreciate your help.
Have a great day and thank you again.

Thank you for choosing QuickBooks Online as your accounting tool. I'll let my colleague know you came back to this post and sent your thanks.

As an additional insight, manually deleting the payment in QuickBooks is necessary to avoid incorrect amounts in your books.

Hello, we have a client dealing with a similar situation, but the payment was made via bank transfer. Will this process still work?
